So, after trolling a bunch of sites, thanks GM, Lester and Squeak, I found a decent 2000 SV650.  The asking price is $3k and the seller is firm.

The good.
GSXR front end/Race Teched
Ohlins shock
Bone Stock motor
GSXR rearsets
Stock forks with Race Tech Emulators
Two Sets of wheels
Some other stock items and an after market half fairing
Street Legal
Frame Sliders and Fork/swingarm Sliders

The Bad
Seller price is firm
Bike is in Santa Cruz
No track fairing

I really feel I should get some movement on the price but the guy is stuck.  After making the above list I feel a little better about the price but still feel it is slightly over priced.

Am I being a biotch or should I walk?

Sounds reasonable to me, but the kicker is I'm assuming you haven't personally inspected it.

Perhaps a knowledgeable MOBster can look at it for ya?

Are you planning on racing, or just tracking it?

knowing absolutely nothing about SV model years my gut reaction...as yours must also be... is that's a tad expensive for a 2000.  but not necessarily something i wouldn't get over in about 5 minutes of riding it on the track the first time.  no bodywork is a slightly expensive missing item.

you might want to call Andy @ West Coast GP Cycles.  310-477-0997.  he's an track SV guru and a nice guy.  tell him what you're looking at... maybe with the, um, implication that you're going to take the bike to him once you get it (not a bad idea).. and i bet he'd have a good idea what it should cost.  or he might have a line on others for sale.

Actually, 3k is prolly about right.  There's a supply/demand issue for prepped SVs and they generally go for between 3k-5k.  Also, first gen SVs are more popular than the later ones with many racers and can therefore command a decent premium.

Anyhow, more than anything else you just need to see it/check it out and then let your gut do the talking.

Lester has agreed to check out and transport the bike for me if the thing shakes out.  He usually flies up north for work every week and is willing to drive his monster truck up one week.

The price is about right but not being able to see/touch the thing makes it a bit difficult.

The guy that owns it, bought it new and has put 20k on it.  From talking to the guy and looking at the photos, he seems pretty maticulous about his stuff which is always a plus.  Might be on the fringes of OCDC! cheeky

The suspension is set for a slightly bigger rider so I think if its as sorted as advertised I can ride it as on the track and street.

I started looking for a track bike but have started to miss Sunday morning in the canyons.  This bike allows for both.  No racing for me as I'm too slow and poor to get into racing.

price is right on.  Suspension alone is nearly half of that, if not more. streetable usually adds to resale.  Clean title? +1 on everything Daryl said (as it should be, since he taught me most of what I know about SVs laughingdp)

+1 on Andy @ GP

I've got a spare set of (allegedly) repairable fairings currently hanging at TSFKAFC*.  If you can fix em and use em, you can have em. waytogo

Thanks for all the info.  Thanks for the offer Squeak.  I'll probably take you up on the offer.

If I can't find an OCC chopper that is track ready I'll probably try to pick this one up! applause

I might take you up on having someone check out the bike.  Anyone have a clue about motorcycles up there?

Lots of track whores in the MOBster ranks, and a good number of knowledgeable folks.

Give a shout in the MOB forum, see if anyone there can give the bike a once-over.
They're a friendly bunch, and beer is an excellent bribe.

Well, I looked long and hard for a 675.  No luck.  Started sniffing out the SV650 and couldn't get the perfect bike.  So, after a bit of consideration I ended up with the 650's big brother.  Found this SV1000s in the valley.  Guy had a fleet of bikes all spotless and nicely moded.  This one was no exception.  He said he had weighed it on his scales (no joke, he showed me the scales) and with a tank of gas she weighed 444lbs.  Not a light weight but not bad.  She is not a track weapon but I realized that with the price of gas I needed a street legal bike to off set the SUV's thirsty nature.

Looks like I don't know how to post photos on this site. bang head

Use your imagination, two wheels, silver, vroom, vroom!

The CRF is safe in her role as the track tard.
