FJR? At one of the bike shows, it was surprising how easy the FJ was to pick up off the sidestand and balance compared to the concours.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm really leaning towards one of the bigger heavy cruisers like a Connie, ZX-14R, or Hayabusa. At this stage, the only bike on my list that I've actually ridden is Will's Beemer - which is a particularly awesome bike, btw.
And the thing about the suggested Multis is they do not have full fairing wind protection. That variety of Ducati went the way of the ST2/3/4 series several years ago :'( Very sad.
I need to do
a lot
more research before I pull the trigger on anything; I am not yet a walking encyclopedia of the Japanese motos on my list - but there's still time if I start cramming now
I'd also like to mooch a ride or two from anyone who might have one of these bikes just to see if the ergos work...
But who knows; I might just splurge on a super sexy Burgman instead...
P.S. And Rob, don't EVER post anything that hideous and pink again...

I know where there's one of two Connie's for sale by a local forum member. Just saying. I'd go ride the new Multi before I said NO IMO. It had more wind protection than I imagined considering the size of that windscreen. Or you could hike up to Maxim to ride this

Lisa,
I'll loan you a test spin on my Busa.
And yes, the FJRs are very nice bikes. They used to dump a shit load of heat on the riders legs but they "fixed" that a few models ago with some fairing vent tweeks. But being a 999 owner you know all about heat. Still keep that bottle of BBQ sauce in your jacket pocket on hot days??
And speaking of VFRs forget the new ones go over to Al Lambs on LBJ and buy the brand new, zero miles left over 2007 in the limited retro red, white and blue livery of the 1986 model!! Hubba hubba!! Honda is still trying to GIVE them away!! I keep finding reasons to go over there and buy more Honda spray polish just to look at it. I now have a cabinet full of spray polish and still no VFR!
Tens of thousands of happy VFR riders can't be wrong.
The new one kinda scares me, looks like a Transformer holding it's breath and about to explode.

I still think a few changes and the 999 would be an awesome tourer
Quat D Exbox or ST4S style exhaust
Lowered pegs
clipsons with 3" rise
touring wind screen
MTS or ST hard bags
Sargeant custom seat
edit: hmmmm given me ideas

Dax told me you had this thread out...just an FYI, but we have two Connie's, one of which I want to sell. I'll shoot you a PM about it.
We haven't gotten to ride together yet on one of the local runs, but my fiance and I both ride Monsters and we both have Connie 14s (08 and 09), but she's 5'3" and sick of the Connie
. She loves her < 400lb S2r, so one's gotta go

Very cool. Thanks everyone for your input and advice. I'm still not exactly sure which direction I want to go with this but I'm building up the data base pretty quickly... What a gear head dork

Well, I've decided to keep my 999. I can always boot the car out of the garage and make more room for a Sport-Tourer if I need to go that route eventually...
And I guess if the car becomes an outdoor dog, then there's all kind of room inside the garage for more bikes... Hell, there's always the entry foyer too.
This just might work out
Thanks again for all the input, and a special thanks to LYD's 748

Lisa, why the 748? what did it do. and yes there's always room for another bike. When we were in ohio, during the winter I parkedboth monsters in the formal dining room. (damn, I have a great wife) like i said there's always room for another bike. and when I feel more comfortable on the 748, I will take you up on letting me ride the 999.
plus i didn't realize how close we live near each other, just give mea call if you want to go for a ride!

I'm with Webspoke on the FJR. I've ridden both it and the Concours but like the FJR more, hands down. But of course, I bought the 2008 Multistrada too.
Good luck to you.

I don't know exactly but when you start taking bodywork off and start to study everything that's underneath - the design, the compactness, the engineering and quality - that goes into making a Duc, well, they're just pretty damn cool. And I've already got one. How cool is that.

Well said! My personal mantra that I have lived by for years. Hmmm... which one gets ridden today?
I may someday be pennyless, broke and homleless but the bikes and I will still be together living under a downtown bridge beneath a tarp!!
Good call on the trip 9 Lisa. It never hurts to re-elvaluate your options and take a second look at what you have. There have been times where I have been tempted to ditch a sbk and get a KTM or Ape super moto. But I think I like the idea of keeping my drivers license too much to do it.

if you're penniless I'll buy back in black for $1, at least you can get a burger from the "value" meal section.
