I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

So - how'd it go?

Yes I will use a GPS for areas I am not sure of. Portland Or has a population of 560,000 with a hair over 2 million in the greater metro area. It is a large town, the 30th largest in the nation and during the boom years of the housing bubble an average of 1500 new streets were added yearly. So yes a GPS will be a good tool to have along with my 400 page or so Thomas Guide( map book)
I will have my last training day today..... [thumbsup]

Had my first night of driving last night...........had a blast! I did not stop all night , worked from 5pm until 4.50 am this morning! Had a lot of laughs, met some super folks and generally had a good time. I drove a 2008 Scion XB with 140k on it, it was like new. Clean clean clean. I got 22 mpg all night and spent $27.00 on gas when I turned it in this am.Next time I am sure I'll be in a Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. So, I am completely fried at the moment, have not got the sleep schedule down yet but I am sure it'l come. I have a couple days off and then hit the bricks again on Sunday at 4PM. This is hard work, I am mentally exhausted because it is a constantly changing environment inside and outside of the vehicle. Personal safety is a concern and we are allowed non lethal deterrants. Where does one buy pepper spray or mace or is that the same stuff? Does a gun shop have that stuff as I have never been into one?(I dont like guns at all as some of you know)

look for a place that carries tactical equipment. like a security guard supply place.. or if you can find a listing for a security guard school in your area, theyd probably be able to point you in the right direction

Yup, you can get pepper spray at a gun shop, or some pharmacies sell them, and lotsa options online. Outdoor stores may sell it for bear-repelling purposes (hopefully you won't get one as a passenger, I hear they're grumpy this time of year).

Pepper spray is a good self-defense tool, please do get some & stay safe!  [adjusts glasses] Mace is technically a brand name for a chemical tear gas (CN gas IIRC) and has been outlawed most places cause it's nasty and can cause death - and pepper spray is preferred cause its a bit gentler and a plant-produced compound. Any chemists around, did I butcher that? Anyway, a lot of folks use "mace" to refer to pepper spray, so any store will know what your asking for.

Good luck on Sunday!

It was great meeting "The Dude" at long last.   She brought us some epic beer.

Go to your local REI store for pepper spray!

Glad the first day went well!   I can imagine the ever-changing environment and leaving one mentally exhausted
but doesn't the olfactory environment change just as often?!    ew. sorry.    ;)
