Found my south shore 25A

I just recently moved to the south shore of Long Island.  I miss the long scenic route on 25A.  Today was around 70* so I fired up the pipes and went off searching for a new south shore route to ride.  I came across South Country Rd. and ran that from E. Patchouge to Shirley.  It runs south of Montauk Hwy.  Great ride.  [moto]

Rather then start a new thread on Long Island roads, I'll  add my 2 cents here.

I live most of the year in Huntington Station, but spend at least 2 months every year in our 2nd home in Albuquerque in intervals of 2 or 3 weeks. I have an '01 Monster here in NY and my '97 stays in ABQ in the care of the redoubtable Duck-Stew.

The riding is obviously very different. Weekend morning in New Mexico, lots of us will gather on the east side of the Sandia Mountains and some of us will do the 14-mile climb up Sandia Crest Rd (Google it). It's as technical as Deal's Gap (which I've ridden).

We of course have nothing like that here. I know of some roads here on the North Shore which qualify as "twisty", but... There is traffic. And, more attention-grabbing for anyone hurrying along a little too quickly, there are intersections and driveways. I'm thinking of Mill River Rd., which runs north from 25A in East Norwich (just west of Rt 106), or maybe Rt 108, which runs south from 25A in Cold Spring Harbor to Pulaski Rd.

Maybe we should start a list of the fun-est roads to ride here on Suburban Island.

Growing up in Bayville and Glen Cove, I'm very familiar with the very cool backroads in Oyster Bay, Old Brookville and Huntington. Like nicrosato says, you have to be careful with the cagers in a hurry around there. They can come out of nowhere fast.  I used to ride those backroads late on sunday nights all the time when the only thing i really had to be careful of were huge puddles of water from the sprinkler systems.
