outerwears for pod filters

 my "all weather, all the time" attitude has been severely diminished with the addition of the TPO beast kit, I knew I needed outerwears (a company that makes pre-filters that covers a multitude of filters to prevent water and fine particulates) but at 60$+shipping from TPO I was going to hold off until next fall to pick some up.

last week I was browsing through catalogs at work and saw that most pre-filters are about 15$each but that none fit my kit K&Ns. going to the outerwears website I saw an option to make CUSTOM pre-filters to your specs, got an email today that they will be 16.50$ each.

im not meaning this as a thread to cut TPO out so much as to show a source for pre-filters for ANYTHING! any shape, any brand, whatever. you just send them your specs (base, top, hight, shape, color etc) and the next day they send you an email with a quote.

Just a FYI... a lot of dirt racers (cars) have found that using outerwears in conjunction with a K&N filter seriously restricts airflow... cheap paper filters flow better than a K&N and Outerwears.  Unless you plan on going tromping through the mud on your duc, I'd skip the outerwears.  OTOH, we used them all the time racing go-karts (Yamaha KT100 two strokes), but that was a clay oval.

I have them, and I can tell no difference at WOT with- and without the Outerwears.

after doing a few rain rides I noticed the filter oil appeared to be washing off so something does need to be done,even if it does hurt performance.

also, FWIW I dont believe that we tune bikes after putting on outerwears which leads me to believe the difference is negligible. they also come off pretty easy so if it is a problem ill just use them when its wet out.

your suppose to oil your K&N filters every few thousand miles, oil bleeding off it is normal.

I don't run K&Ns, but for oiled foam filters (run them on all the dirt bikes and the TL) I've found a huge variation between filter oils in terms of what rinses off and what doesn't - Bell Ray filter oil is pretty gnarly and will stay on really well as well a few others.  Most are a bit thinner and wash off more easily.  Maybe you could use something other than K&N oil on the K&N.

Outwears are popular with PWC and ATV guys, never really caught on with dirt bikes. I think they have a bunch of off-the-shelf universal fit sizes as well.

they were completely white in areas that would catch the water and the proper pale pink in the areas that would be protected, I was only riding with them for ~3 weeks too.

I'm still not sold on outerwears on the road.  It makes sense in extremes... water, snow, mud, dirt...

But on road the filters are good enough.

Also, on the "feel" between filters and outers+filters... I'm talking dyno numbers.  Maybe it only matters to racers, but those two or three ponies matter!
