Rocket Riding Rotary Renegade

Oh I feel a fool, but I guess I should come clean and share my mistake so hopefully others don't do the same...

Was riding home yesterday when the low oil pressure light came on, so when I got home I checked and noticed the oil level was a little low. So I topped it up, but only a tiny amount and anticipating I'd need more I left the filler cap a little loose. Anyway, I went to go out riding and checked the level this morning, it looked fine so I started her up and got on my way. However, I had forgotten to torque up the filler cap... I got to my destination about 10km away get off and park the bike. And a few minutes later I notice oil all over my boot and riding jeans.  bang head

Go and check, and as I expect the filler cap is clean missing... Luckily I lost very little, but its made a big mess! I suppose now I'm in the market for a filler cap... Perhaps a nice metal one to make me feel better  Grin

Well, it makes sense when you think about it.  Being upside down in Australia like that , anything not tightly attached is going to fall off.   Grin

Nah... you're not an idiot. I've seen what they can do before and loosing an oil filler cap doesn't even come close. Now, ignoring the oil light for weeks on end and seizing up your motor from lack of oil would be idiotic! bang head Look at this as just an honest way to mod your bike with a cool anodized metal filler cap! The glass is half full. Grin

don't lie, you did it on purpose so you can buy another shiny part for your bike.  if you want new wheels, i do not recommend the same method/excuse  Grin

Psh, forget the shiny aluminum parts... you're likely to lose it.

What you need is to take up drinking wine... then you can just shove an old cork in your engine case Cheesy  Vino!

laughingdp laughingdp laughingdp Sorry, I'm sure we have all done some thing just as silly.

Why not replace it with one of those that shows the temp, the little gauge sits in the cap,

I've no idea where you can get them from or if they are still available.

I may have caved and bought the DP cap  Grin

Its actually the first bit of modding I've done since I bought the bike, other than maintenance etc. All of a sudden I'm tempted to buy a lot of other things...

The disease will make you do all sorts of weird things. You're totally screwed! It always starts out the same way. Seemingly innocent... maybe even practical, cost effective or needed. But then the packages start arriving via UPS, other bills start stacking up, calls and emails go un-returned, the lawn needs mowing, you seem to be spending an awful lot of time on the computer, your wife opens the charge card bill and screams "what the make the beast with two backs have you been doing??!!"... then it starts to get bad. Oh yeah, go ahead... order the DP filler cap. Come on, just get it over with. You are so screwed.  laughingdp popcorn

Well, don't do what I did... two years ago I started modding the monster because I thrashed the stock parts flying it off a cliff...

Other than that, buy more shiny bits!
