So the better part of this past week was spent traveling from NWPA to South Carolina (Charleston area) to pickup a 999 from a guy selling on Ducati.ms (pics of this HERE in a different thread)

It's 12 hours of travel + stops for food.  Had I been single I would have driven down, slept in the truck in a walmart parking lot, picked the bike up in the morning and headed for home.

r00tchick wanted to go with me to get away from our 30 degree temps and soak up their 75 degree temps and that if we were going all that way we might as well hang out for a couple days.

Im glad she came up with that plan.  It was a ton of fun!

We left at 6am and got to our hotel at around 8pm.

The following day we went down into Charleston and ate our lunch at Battery Park (or White Point, I think)

Big boom-

I caught the attention of a bird and a squirrel.  Seems they had in interest in BBQ Baked Lays potato chips.

We also spotted a few dolphins doing their thing out in the water which was really cool.  Hard to get a pic though :(

That afternoon we drove about an hour south to meet up with Buckethead and get a tour of Paris Island and the Marine air base in Beaufort.

I had to include this pic I took as we started pulling away from a stop light.  I must have moved at the perfect time to stretch this truck while the background looks normal [laugh]

Buckethead and r00tchick, for scale [laugh]

Southern car culture [laugh]

We spent most of Thursday at the Magnolia Plantation and Gardnes.  What and AWESOME place!!  Pretty sure I'll go back at some point.  It was a 2000 acre rice plantation.  1500 got sold off for phosphate mining and the remaining 500 became a tourist hot spot.  THis place has been owend by the same family for something like the last 350 years.  It really is an amazing place.

Albino Peacock-

The plantation house-

There were a few Peacocks poking around where we were eating lunch. They're just free to roam the grounds and do their thing.  They'd come within a few feet of us and not pay us any attention.

One of those shrubbery mazes with a neat statue at the center-

A couple of Cyprus trees.  These things get big, really big.

Bamboo-

Walking along one of the paths that boardered an old rice bed (now swamp) there was a 4' gator about 4' from the path just chillin

Lots of interesting plants and flowers-

One of the Peacocks doing his thing while we were going through the petting zoo

The females weren't too interested.  At one point this little goat came over to him and started eating the ends of his feathers [laugh]

Here he is puttin the moves on r00tchick

That night we went to check out the bike.  We ended up hanging out for about 3 hours drinking beer and talking bikes and racing. [moto]  It was an awesome day.

The following moring (Saturday) we got up at 4am, got the the bike by 5:20 or so and were loaded up and gone by 6:15 for a full day's drive home.  We decided to pick the bike up early because apparently bike theft is big this time of year and it was actually on the way home from our hotel.

This was probably the best week I have had since r00tchick and I got married :)

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

cool pics.   I love the one of the southern car.  parked on dirt with a boat in the background for good measure.

I hear you.

No idea how something like that gets through a safety inspection.

I saw A LOT of that southern charm in NC!  TOO MUCH!!  [puke]  Jacked up Cutlass Supremes and chrome frame/stretched superbikes.  Funny..we really don't have any of that here in the PHX area.

Looks like a good trip

Dunno if the boat belonged to the same guy as the Monte. That dirt is the parking lot for the car audio retailer where he was apparently having some work done.

Dammit! why didn't someone tell me you could go on a road trip to get a 999 and not have it involve Bacon Junkie making dick jokes for 2000 miles.   >:(

Congrats on the new bike!   [thumbsup]

My guess is that you'd be allowed a half hour of it before you get your mouth stuffed full of yarn to shut you up.  [cheeky]

Its in the rule book dude:

Chapter 8

Section 3.1.5

Paragraph 14:

"Should the rider in question be leaving his state of residence to purchase a Ducati model 999 (or any model variant thereof) said rider is entitled to recite humorous anecdotes, stories and/or jokes pertaining to the penis, penis shaped objects, scrotums, scrotum shaped objects and the insertion of any of the above into orifices both natural and unnatural for the duration of the trip, both arriving and returning as the whim so suits the rider. Any and all objections to the usage of this entitlement shall be submitted to the hand."

All there in black and white. Iron clad.
