I would still like to see 2-3 more tries at the quarter-miler. that's just too insignificant of a difference.
Unless you are a V-Max fan.
PS
I agree with you.

Do we know if DTC was on/off on the Diavel in that race? might have had something to do with the result...
Also, would a Termi full exaust system help the Diavel? I imagine it would, but I guess the two bikes were intentionally raced as stock...

imo, the big thing about the diavel isnt the straight line performance... what's special about it is the fact that you wont have hard bits dragging the second you make a turn. so if the vmax beats it in the 1/4 mile by a couple of 10ths... meh.
what i would like to see is both those bikes go through a hot lap and see who comes out on top then.

I agree, the V MAX Has always been intended to be s straight line, drag race, MuscleBike. If It didn't win I would be very suprised, right on ,I don't think that was the intent of the Ducati, Who have never been into production drag racing marketing, damn good race for the V MAX, but...

8.5cc:cv vs 7.4cc:cv (i.e. 1700/200 vs 1198/162)
the vmax has an inefficient engine design then, because for the amount of cc:hp, they are making very little advantage over the diavel's 1198ccs. for the vmax engine to be as efficient at making 200 hp as the diavel's engine, it should be only 1480 cc.
likewise, if the diavel engine was as inefficient as the vmax with the same displacement, it would only make 140 hp.
if the diavel engine design maintains the same efficiency with increased displacement, it would produce 230hp with 1700ccs.
I just pointed out that a v-4 has the potential to produce more HP. If all else remains the same (displacement, bore:stroke ~ 1, etc) the v-4 can spin a lot faster cause the pistons wouldn't have to move as far in the same amount of time. High RPM HP is easier to get than low RPM HP, and HP is what makes you go fast!

What gets my attention is the launch itself. The portly Vmax roasts the rear while the Diavel lofts the front. Really speaks to the character of each bike. I prefer the latter.

500 more ccs, it would be obvious. I'm more surprised that it was close. Which one is more expensive? If you ride in FL, then the VMAx might be the better choice. Anywhere else where you actually need to turn, the Diavel.
Did they do multiple runs with the riders switching bikes? I would rather look at averages. The VMax should take it 9 out of 10 times.

I love how everyone forgets that the V-Max is a shaft drive which loses more power at the wheel than a chain or belt drive....

It still has 40 more HP... don't thing the power losses in the final drive are THAT significant.

wanna bet?....at the wheel, the difference would probably be nowhere near as much as you think...

Diavel 162 HP claimed, about 135 at the rear wheel = about 17% less then crank HP

Vmax 197 HP claimed, about 174 at the rear wheel = about 11.5% less then crank HP
