So I just bought a Chinese aftermarket speedo for my 2002 620ie Dark Monster. Here is the link- http://www.dan-moto.com/danmoto-180-digital-cockpit-product-389.html?zenid=railsrbsk37duckebv02l6gpp3 I am looking for any help/ suggestions on how to swap this one for my stock one. Any and all advice or direction would help.
Thanks Dylan

First off, I'm pretty sure your bike came with an immobilizer (red key? Flashing dash light when the bike is off?) so the bad news is that the magic circuits that electronically link your key to your bike live in your gauges. Remove the gauges and the bike won't run.

The good news is you can get you ECU reflashed so it doesn't need the immobilizer anymore. A search of the forums should give you some pointers on getting started. Alternatively, you can hide the electronics inside the stock gauges somewhere on you bike. This is not easy and not for the faint of heart.

As for wiring up the Gauges once that's out of the way, this thread covers several different gauge types and is as good a starting place as any:

Very cool thanks. Would my local Duc dealer reflash the ECU? I will post my progress!
Thanks!

Big thanks to Corey from Houston Super Bike. After we talked he did some research on his own and found out I can replace the entire wire harness on my 02 with an 03 to 07. This will save me from having to flash the ECU. So my next mission is to find an 03 wire harness. Shoot me a PM if you want to sell one!

That'll actually work? It doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not familiar with the "newer" bikes (anything after 2001 is 'new' to me)

That won't work.

OR at least I'm 99.999999% sure it won't. I won't go 100% because I've never personally tried it. However, that is an ABSURD amount of work to get around a $250 charge that will end up with a better fuel curve and more power.

Flash your ECU. You even said you're close to them. What am I missing?

^^^ What he said. The reflashed ECU is a great mod all on it's own and I (like Artful) am dubious that the harness swap will work.

I'll third what Artful posted. The immobilizer manifests itself in a relationship between the ECU and the gauge cluster. On motorcycles so equipped, you can't start the bike if you don't have both original parts installed. Replacing the wiring that interconnects them will have zero effect.
Do the '02 bikes even implement the immobilizer? I thought that didn't happen until 2003. If you don't have a red key & code card you don't need to worry about it. Regardless, swapping a wiring harness won't_do_diddly. Get the ECU reprogrammed to disable the antitheft, and then proceed with your gauge swap.

Well Hell. I was looking for a cheaper way out. Guess that doesn't exist with Ducati's. Corey told me that it would work, damn and I ordered a new harness. Well does anyone want to buy an 03 wire harness? Hell! Thanks guys. I guess i will just have to reflash it. I will keep you posted.

I don't know Corey, but if someone sold me something under a promise that it'd work and it didn't, I'd ask for my money back.

Corey didn't sell me anything. He was just answering some questions. I might have heard him wrong so please hear me when I say the blame all falls on me. I don't want any confusion about it. I bought the wire harness off ebay and the guy was cool enough to let me return it. I probably was a bit to hasty when I thought I heard there was a cheaper way around it. So with that said I am going to do this the right way and re-flash the ECU. Thanks again to all of you who have taken your time and helped me with this. I love the fact that I can turn to all here on the forum for advice!
Thanks Dylan
