Mother

I took Jess to the airport tonight

and

came home after picking up my new-to-me 300WM

figure I'll see if it fires

So I lay-in-wait for the giant brown dog that knocks over our trash cans

he shows up

ease the safety off

<click>

his ears come up

tail begins to wag

he comes over and begins licking the end of my new rifle

up close he is pretty banged up

looks like a car recently took his eye and completely caved in the side of his head

pulled out my pistol to put him down...that injury has to hurt...

he sat down and began thumping his tail on the porch

couldn't do it
found my old skin suit

KnightofNi

did you feed him too?

no putting hin out of his misery?

[roll]

and besides my own arrogance that "I" know what is best

what parameters do I use to guage that an animal needs to be put down?

I know personally that no amount of pain would make me want to be killed

I can only assume that the dog felt the same way

he got to play with grace and he ate the rest of the chicken soup

left with a wagging tail

found my old skin suit

Mother

that came off as dickish

my appologies, Im rather high right now

you are probably right as to needing to put the dog down

but

even with the wound the dog was friendly and appeared happy

I suppose I could have manned up

but

I always wonder why they shoot horses instead of letting them heal

AFAIK, not so long ago, that was done when horses broke a leg, as they wouldn't recover.
Seems they can save then nowadays at great expense, I remember a couple (?) of big-time racehorses in the last couple years.
But probably only done when they can earn more healed than what it cost to fix 'em.

you talk about a dog with a crushed-in skull...and how you can't put it down

scumming up my morning with a sad story

that you made even sadder

what the make the beast with two backs do you expect?

First you were gonna burn him down with a 300WM for "knocking over your trash can", but instead you let
him walk up to your ambush site and lick your balls.
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

MendoDave

You should start feeding him. Then he won't need to go into the trash can.

happily everafter

yeah, why are we not actually trying to take care of this animal instead of trying to put him down?? a society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable...

i dont know if he should be making the decision to kill it though, there's not a vet or animal shelter it can be taken to???

If it's well enough to to be hungry enough to forage for food, then play, it's probably well enough to easily survive.  I wouldn't have shot it either

A stray dog is not part of society.  Anthropomorphise them all you want, it is still a dog and it would eat your dead body if hungry.

Nature will take its course.  If it is hurt badly, it will die, if not, it will keep knocking over your garbage cans.
