My mileage will in theory allow me to go on for 35-40 miles before the tank is empty, after the light comes on. (11+3 liters)
I know the bike will stop itself before the tank is dry - to prevent damage to the injection, I guess. But if it's going to stop after just 17 miles or so, I'm in trouble. My touring plans include some longer stretches where I won't be able to find gas stations within such short distances.

This happened going steady on a highway, no twisties, no braking, at about 80-100 mph.

Is there a way to adjust or replace the feeler so it won't be as sensitive?

Theres still gas in your tank, but hte fuel pump cant reach it. I guess your best bet is to carry some petrol in a sealed alluminum tube with you.

You'll get *far* better mileage at 65 or so. Also, stop trusting the light-the first time it fails, you find out the hard way.

Failure is not uncommon.

Mine cut out today as well. doing about 65 on the free way. light came on 17 miles prior and she just ran out of gas. My 00' 750 would get about 40+ miles after. I now know that (just like my Avalanche) I have to stop at every other gas station. 85 and sunny, leathers and helmet. pushed for about 5 miles. she would stay running for about 10 seconds here and there. Just enough so I did'nt kill myself pushing. Last 100yards uphill.

I'm still pretty new to my bike (had her just about a month, 02 750ie dark) but the previous owner told me to fill up way before I get to the light on, only gets a handful of miles after and he'd run out of gas plenty of times. So I worked my mileage out to to be about 120 miles per tank, so I just use the trip odo and reset after filling up. I refill at about 90 miles so I'm allowing myself some distance to get to gas if I need to.

Just how I do it anyways..

Yesterday I tested it on purpose, going up and down some twisty hills (gas station on the bottom) to run it "dry". Stopped 19 miles after the light.

To be on the safe side I practice what you do, VeryMetal, but it's going to happen again regardless.

What pisses me off is that Ducati says 3 liter reserve when it's not more than 1.5. I understand about the need to stop the bike before it tries to run on air, but 1.5 liters seems overcautious Evil
