This bike has been down on the right side, and I don't know if it worked before it went down.

Where is the switch located and what does it look like? I think if I can locate the actual switch, I can figure out whats wrong, and i didn't want to start pulling stuff appart with out some advice.

FYI,
I went down from doing a low speed wheely and the tail touched down. It fell on the right side, and this is whats been replaced. Tail light, bars, grips, levers, and the front rim. Oh, and I had to fix the front brake light switch. I don't see how any of this could relate to the neutral light though.

neutral switch is located at the back of the motor on the right side...kinda stuck in behind the swingarm.

Not uncommon for the wire to corrode where it attached to the switch.

my neutral light didnt work when i bought the bike... they put the same switch in most bikes they just put shims under the switch to accomidate diffrent bikes i just removed one of the shims and now im making contact... as far as i know the light on mine stopped working mysteriously after a crash the guy had no idea what it could be. ithe swich is located behined your rear shock on the back of the case... if not u may have to solder the wires back on top of the swich check out ducatisuite.com he did a write up on the switch.

May not look exactly the same, but will be in the same general location...

Actually, you´re better off learning to live without it,
it is not reliable.
Better learn to get a good feel f when it is in neutral.

I agree, but this is my wifes bike, not mine.

Thanks for the link CAMATT and the pic is perfect, Darkstar

Do not trust that light.

To answer Q,
take the wiring apart shown above,
usually u just have to solder 1 wire that`s broken.

Older models had no connector, newer models do.  I'm not sure about your '98.  The switch turns on the light by closing and completing a path to ground.  Disconnect wire.  Touch wire to ground with key on.  Neutral light goes on?  Switch or adjustment (see camatt29's post).  Light doesn't go on?  Wiring or bulb in dash.

Mine did work on my 97 when I got it. I took it off and resoldered the connection, works fine now.
