Noooooo! Back away from the power tools That is a wood bit, I couldn't see that ending well. I whole heartedly recommend finding a machine shop in your area with soem epxerienced folks. This a stone simple job for a trained machinist, but easy to botch for a rookie.

I gave my triple to my local bike shop along with a fork leg and they sent it to their machine Guy for me. It cost me $70.

Here's the tool I used to machine my top triple: It's a pretty involved job. You need to send it to a real machine shop.

I imagine you could do it with a hone, just measure often. Me, I'm sticking to the boring bar.

There are no machine shops in your area? The wood bit thing might work, but I would not risk it. The biggest thing is to make sure everything is rigid. I'd tell ya to send it to me, but you would lose 1 week just in shipping and I would need to know the exact bore diameter.

Yeah I do have some unusual ideas from time to time, but that has been the basis for this project and so far so good. Honestly I think with a decent drill press vice and feeding it slowly, the worst that would happen would be the bit catching the edge of the slot and either chipping a tooth on the cheapo bit or catching and the belt slipping. Luckily I picked up a mill and a lathe the other week with a ton of tooling so boring bar it will be. Would it be best to remove the bolts and put a washer in the slot, then clamp them down and bore it to 53mm? That should allow the clamp to grab the forks properly I would think.
