15,000 mile Service?
«

Hey all, my bike (2005 s2r 800) is about to hit the 15,000 mark and was wondering what all that service involves.
I would like to try to do the majority of the work myself.
So 1. What does the 15K service involve?
2. What should I consider doing regarding wear and tear that is not involved in the 15K service?
ie. sprockets, chain, etc.
The Valves have already been adjusted at 14K due to a near catastrophic mishap! So, they are done.
Thanks for all your help

Download the service manual and it'll give you all the details.
Or....bring it to Desert Desmo, LLC and we'll take care of it.

Depends on the bike... But I didn't think 15k was a recognised interval... I thought it was 10k, and then 20k? That's the case with the 620 anyway...
If the bike was serviced by a dealership at 10k, you might only need to do the oil/filter, adjust your chain etc in preparation for the 20k. Things like timing belts are 10k/2years. As for sprockets and your chain, are they worn? If you pull back on the chain at the back of the rear sprocket can you pull it back up the sprocket teeth at all, does it have tight spots etc? Are the teeth on the sprockets still symmetrical and solid, or are they beginning to "hook" over? Other wear and tear would be things like tyres, brake pads etc. Depending on the age of the bike you might want to swap out and bleed the clutch/brake fluid. But the question remains, what bike is it??
Also, what almost happened with your valves??
Cheers,
Tom

Thanks everyone for the help. Sorry it took so long to post I was away for a few days. The bike is an '05 s2r 800. And yes 15,000 mile service. Wasn't thinking when i posted it.
As far as those wear and tear items...I can give them a good once over. The chain is a bit loose. Could just needed adjusted.
Now, the valves... In my ignorance I removed the belts last winter just to do some cleaning and fuddling around. Not realizing that when they go back on there is a very, very specific way in which they do. Well I tried to start the bike and it would turn over but just not run...exhaust was coming out of the air box everything. So, thankfully the local dealership is 5 minutes down the road. I hauled the bike there. The mechanic told me I was within millimeters from destroying my entire bike! He has never seen the valve timing so off before. But with a chuckle and a shaking of his head he gladly fixed the bike and I was up and running.
So, should we start a "dumb things I have done to my Duc" thread. If so, here is my entry!

For the 05 s2r800 the major service intervals are 600 miles, 6k miles, 12k miles, 18k miles. In 2007 Ducati increased these to 600, 7.5k, 15k, ect on the 07 and newer bikes. If your bike was serviced at 12k then you should be good until 18k.
Your manual should detail what things need to be done.
Here is a link to download the owners manual and parts manual.

I will dig around and see if I can find the maintenance workshop manual thingamabober I forgot exactly what they call it.
hey had it on my own website

The manual for my S2R800 has 1K, 10K, 20K, 30K... Just checked the downloaded S2R manual which has the same thing. You might be good to for another 5K is nothing is seriously out of whack.

FAAACCKKKKK.... Ducati manual #FAIL. Guess that means I am way overdue for service. Currently at 21,300 or so. Was thinking I could go until 25K.

Thanks guys. I think I will start to purchase the wear and tear items for the end of the riding season, the valves should be good and everything will hold up for another thousand or so miles. Looks like I will have a busy off season. Thanks again for the input
