Can someone tell me if there is an actual logo for the monster? I know they all say ducati on the tank, I have seen some monsters with ducati monster on the tank, is this an aftermarket sticker. I have seen some designs on flea bay with a bull picture is it official or just something made up?

the early monsters had "ducati" in the cagiva font with "monster under it in red or black, once it was sold and the new font came on board it's just ducati.

The Monster was originally going to be a Cagiva (Cagiva owned Ducati at the time) but the Ducati factory put up a really good fight and kept it a Ducati. As to a logo - there in only the new logo that is being pushed as part of the new 'Monster' clothing range - This logo is based on the 696 though so may not be everyone's cup-of-tea so to speak... laughingdp

As to the bull - that is generally a Ducati general logo - as is the elephant!

btw, if you want any of the logos:

www.brandsoftheworld.com and seach for ducati - lots of postsript files etc...

the elephant was definately cagiva, the original monster logo was ducati (in the cagive era font) with monster underneath it - not sure if there was a logo as such - may need to look marketing stuff from '93 ish..

actually, the monster started life as a concept bike at the milan motor show and was nicknamed "il mostro" by the factory workers. there was such positive feedback about the bike that it was put into production. given that cagiva owned ducati from 85 thru 97 their elephant caricature was stamped on just about everything, they figured out very early on though that a cagiva with a ducati engine is not a ducati (read allazura here) and wouldn't sell like one.

I can second the cagiva stamping - it was everywhere! even places mechanics wouldn't find em!

I tried for a brief while to get an old (93 to 97) petrol tank cap - the gold surround just under the flap had the cool looking elephant on it! very funky.

as to the name...

Miguel Galluzzi claimed that he called it that because at the time his children were demanding a toy (available from a fast-food chain) called the monster, when the directors asked if he had a name for the bike he was concocting with the other engineers he said 'il mostro'.

between that and the description of the bike as "'The Monster is a simple bike... If you gave a child a pen and paper and said draw a motorcycle, this would be the bike they'd draw"

it really is no wonder children are naturally impressed by us!

I stand corrected on the Elephant logo - I should have read Ian Falloon's book more closely....

I'd rather go with the "Elephant" than the "bull".
No bull !
The bull doesn't register on my memory banks which go back to about 1974,
so gain I say "No bull" !
