I bet Ducati hangs on to the 848, or the new equivalent. It might not come out right away but it should show up sometime after the big bikes. Our local dealer can't keep 848s in stock for long.
Hopefully.

As a direct result, BMW has shelved plans for a S600RR.
Alright, that would have been awesome. I'd rather not move from my 620 to a liter bike. Need a middleweight to fill the transition.

Liter+ bikes are not that big of a deal. Yeah, sure they are fast but the throttle works both ways. Heck, I don't have a bike smaller that 750cc and the biggest is a Busa with Yosh pipes and a custom mapped PC5... and that's my sport touring bike! If you are a good rider on a 620 you will still be a good rider on a 1000.

Dude, I don't know. Going from a 40hp bike to a 180hp bike is a hell of a make the beast with two backsing change.
Get a 3k track bike I6 and ride the piss out of it. Then go for the 11tyb HP death machine on wheels

My bike progression:
250 ninja 20ish hp
Then sold for m900ie 75-80hp
then sold for 675 123hp
Then sold for 950smr 100hp
Then added 999 132rwhp
The bikes I almost died on and got into the most trouble on?
250 ninja and m900.
Just sayin.
The 999 has two modes. Sedate and eyeball flattening. Its not too hard to pick which one is right in any given road condition
Ok,
sometimes
it is.

848Evo is number one selling Ducati SBK for 2011 by far.. middleweights are not dead, just the opposite!!

It'll be interesting to see if Ducati will even make a middleweight version. According to an article in this month's Cycleworld (I think...may have been another US mag), the market for middleweight sportbikes has tanked...it's off something like 90%.
As a direct result, BMW has shelved plans for a S600RR. Wonder if Ducati will follow suit...especially given their recent leaning towards high end models.

Good! Maybe it's just a problem with the big 4 and their 600s then.

You mean 750. i think that's the issue. People buy the cheaper 600 or go directly to the 1000. Since Ducati only offers the 848 or 1198, it's an easier decision.

well except for the monsters
696/796/1100 which sucks IMO. the 796 needs to be a 904 to make it a true middleweight

No, the article referenced 600s since they were discussing why BMW had decided not to build a
600
sportbike.
Suzuki is the only manufacturer that even makes a 750 sportbike.
