I had my stock flywheel machined down to about 1.5 pounds. The higher revs are typical. Nothing to worry about. You've got to give it a little more throttle/engage 1st a bit later because what used to lug the engine a little before, will now stall it due to the decreased rotating mass of the flywheel. I bumped up my idle RPM a tiny bit to avoid some stalling that I experienced when stopped at lights etc. In my opinion, dollar for dollar, the lightened flywheel ranks in the top 5 mods that can be done to these smaller displacement engines. Spins up like a champ.

I've got stock coffins, levers, and slave, so no experience there for me.

Yup, it's supposed to sound like that....

I noticed some of that, but haven't stalled much.

However it all became smoother/easier to modulate with the 28 mm YoYoDyne clutch slave cylinder waytogo
(which I now see in the picture that you already did, so yes, more revs)

Yup waytogo yup

Rule thanks for the info.  I will have to have my idle adjusted.  She was idling near 1K which I think is contributing to more stalls.  Will have it increased a bit and see where we end up.

I will not lie, just riding her 40 minutes home from shop, I can't believe that this is not a must do when you first get this or any smaller Monster.  Incredible acceleration vs. stock flywheel and I just have a stock one that's been lightened.  I know it comes with some downsides, but $$$ vs performance, performance wins out.  She gets to 100 in the blink of an eye now.....

Let's see if we can smooth her out.

Let's see if we can smooth her out.

Synch the throttle-bodies, new plugs, new fuel filter, air filter, etc... A lighter flywheel will allow any roughness to be emphasized, but when you get it running smoothly, it's bliss. After that, you can really get the most out of a Power Commander III with a custom advanced map.

For now... just back the air-bleeds out a quarter turn or so, to see if the increase in idle RPM helps the stalling.

Took the bike out again to get re-aquainted with her.  Is it me or does a lightened flywheel mean that the bike really has to really ridden?  Once the engine reaches 3K and I'm in 2nd, it seems like 6K is now the sweet spot and it wants to be flogged and not babied around anymore without that heavy flywheel.

Commuting will get interesting if that's the case! waytogo

The bike is not afraid of revs - neither should you  waytogo  (clutch control makes it easier to tame)

+1

The lightweight flywheel, as others have noted, will stall easier because it has less mass.   If you weren't giving the bike enough throttle/RPM, there's not as much mass in the flywheel for inertia to keep the pistons moving on the compression stroke.

I think downshifting with the lightweight flywheel is easier, but its been a long time since I was on a heavy flywheel bike (got one in the garage now, will have it running by next weekend I expect...)

The bike feels amazing.  I was able to have the idle increased, messed with my clutch lever positioning and took some time to listen to the engine while scooting around town.

Agreed that this is one of the best mods one can do to a bike.

Trust me I know the feeling......  chug

Whether it was watching the youtube clips of your S2R, Kopfhunter beast, StopinTime customization, Eyduc's Italian beauty Lucille or Travman's simple taste and style, every time I look at an S*R I get inspired to do something different.  While I've called this project done, once or twice now there are always things that make me want to make my wallet cry (BST's or forged Alum rims, dry clutch conversion, Ohlins steering damper) etc. the list goes on........

Right now I miss the look of the exposed rear wheel, makes me wish I had my (quat-D exbox).  However the sound of the Arrow's makes me remember why I got them and can live with the

Happy that this thread is inspiring you to continue to evolve your Monster canvas.

Stop- you are such a bad influence.  My wallet is severly weeping.  This is going to get me committed to Modders Anonymous.

Just purchased - Ohlins Steering Damper with the Motowheels under folk mount and OZ Piega Rims.
