What about shipping to Canada and ride across the border. Seems like a better option and a way to skip customs on the US side. Buying and selling is your other best option. Just need someone on this side to help with it all.
What? They dont have any customs procedures in Canada?? I dont see that as any easier or less costly an option. But you're right, if
stopintime isnt wedded to the idea of doing it on his own bike, then buying and selling is a good alternative.
I also think that is possible to air freight a bike from Europe to USA and back for way less than $10K. IMO air freight has advantages (other than speed of course) over sea shipment. When your bike is part of a shipping container.... it can sit around dock-side waiting to be unloaded, so even if the vessel arrives in port on schedule theres still the possibility of long delays eating into your travel plans.
