Me too, went from 03 620 to S2R1K. Both great bikes but the S2R is definitely the next step up, and the best all-around Monster IMHO.
Just FYI, mine is for sale, but haven't listed it here yet.

Very Nice Bike!! I don't think I can make it to Austin anytime soon though.
What are you replacing the S2R with so in a couple more years I will know what to be looking at

i have a 620 and a streetfighter. i love the comfort and feel of the 620, but it really doesn't have enough power.

Thanks. I don't have anything in mind to immediately replace it but I think I'd like to try a KTM Adventure or Super Duke next.

03 620 to a '10 1100 seven years later. The differences in just about everything but the Ducati name are like night and day. Wish I had upgraded years ago but I still ride the 620 as much possible. If go for a 796 if you want to make an upgrade.

I have a Monster 750, and added a 900SS to the garage, and the upgrade was amazing! The FI 900cc motor is tons of fun, so I'm sure the DS1000 is even more fun!

I have let a grand total of 4 different people ride my bike. They have all (independently) bowed down afterwards. You need one. It's by far the best bike ducati ever made

As bad as I was to to power wheelies on the 900SS, I'm sure I'd get amazing front tire life on the 1K

I went from an '03 620 to a '99 900. While I lost fuel injection, I spent less money and got adjustable suspension, aftermarket pipes, dry clutch (open cover), more torque and lower insurance.
I enjoyed the 620, it was very easy to maneuver (the 900 isn't much harder), but love the wider tire of the 900 and how I was able to get rid of my chicken strips. The 900 doesn't have too much more horsepower than the 620, but it has more torque. If you can swing it, get your new bike before you sell the old one-then you can ride them back to back and realize you made the correct decision by buying the bigger engine bike.
...as long as you have a Monster, life is good

I was lucky...
My little M750 got to share a garage with Duck-Stew's gorgeous M900 for awhile. He let me ride it.
Then he had the bright idea to call me up and tell me about a 999 that was for sale for a good price.... Yeah, I bought it. HOLY make the beast with two backsING HELL!!!!!
Yeah, I know it's a 4 valver, water cooled, etc... but the point remains. Moved from a smaller bike to a much larger one. I went from 60ish horsepower to 140. The power is addicting. You'll not want to go back!
Go for it... get the s2r. You won't regret it!

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

I've had my S2R1K since new in 06 and still love it.
After spending several years on a 620 you should be ready for the step up with no problem.
Motor wise there is no comparison, it will no leave you wanting more unless your idea of enough power is something that will run 160+... the DS motors have a near perfect "Real WOrld" power.
Brakes and SUspension.. the 320 mm brakes on the S2R1K are very capable and while there are now brakes that are "Better" they are really only marginally better in the "Real WOrld" and that is debatable.
Rear Shock.... probably the weakest link .... best upgraded to something else when $$ allow although I've never upgraded mine
Forks.... I do not agree with one posters comment that they are bottom line forks.. they are fully adjustable and with a modest amount of $$ you can get a decentdrop in kit with springs and valving setup for your skills/habits/weight. A complete Ohlins drip in is available as well.
My best mods have been the Support for the Windshield and the slightly taller MRA windscreen
Just recetnly added the inline gadget that hels the idle running surge that is common and it seems to have done the trick, the Arrows purr and very little pop on decel now.
I've ridden for 40 years and have not tired of my monsetr yet.. I do have another couple of bikes though so it is not a do everything bike for mealthough it is quite capable at that as well as long as you aren't doing any gravel!

The horsepower isn't what gets me addicted, is the torque. I remember the first time I whacked the throttle open hard on my 900SS (same basic motor as the M900). That was an experience. If I add anything else to the garage, it will be a big air-cooled motor like a Hyper.
