STEERING STOPS
$1

2 Vacuum Caps
Ever tried to maneuver through a parking lot or position your bike in a
tight space and bashed the hell out of your frame and forks?  I have, so
I took a simple little vaccum cap and topped the ends of the steering
adjuster bolts.  That way, when the steering is put lock to lock, it has a
nice cushion and you can maneuver without tearing your bike up.

Roll Eyes Your point about not banging the bars so aggressively against the stops is a valid one.  Your snotty delivery manner in making that point is somewhat less valid boo

ok, enough with this idea that its the riders fault for slamming the handlebars back and forth too aggressively. My bike has 400 miles on it and I've never once done this. Its simply a byproduct of a metal bolt hitting a nicely painted frame and I was curious if there was supposed to be a rubber head on the bolt to prevent this.

no big deal. all the elitists can settle down and unwind their panties. It was a serious inquiry.

Well that's a matter of perspective. These 696ers get on here all day and circlejerk each other over how awesome their little bikes are and then piss and moan about completely minor things like painted steering tabs and cracks in wiring looms and broken zipties and the like. I mean really. I'm sure their fellow Starbucks patrons will not notice.

Talking crap about bad design vs. good as if they have a clue? Seems pretty snotty to me. Adapt, overcome, move on & ride safe. If they're whiny enough to go to the dealer about it they will be given the opportunity to purchase a nice Ducati branded touchup pen. That's life.

I caught the bit about the expanding tanks, old & new Monsters, my filthy scratched-up clapped-out bike, etc. that danaids deleted from his post. Whatever. Not going to get into a discussion about full trellis vs. Tupperware again. Listen mister you can't keep a motorcycle in the wrapper forever, that is if you in fact ride the thing and don't just sit on a lawn chair and watch UV rays degrade the plastics. Wait until you drop the bike in your driveway whilst posing for pictures and the real tears will flow. Subsequent whines will be posted afterward blaming the bike I guarantee it.

Is it me or do all the nouveau-Ducatisti 696 riders whine incessantly about nonissues of this ilk?

I too have experience in the dirt going back to when I was 5 years old. I used to compete in peewee races on a KX60 and YZ80 and had an XL400 in high school. Quit riding after that, then about four years ago I took the MSF class, got a used SV650 and thought it was a rocket. I miss the bike actually, I now have an S2R 800cc and believe it's as fast as I'd want a bike to be. I can't imagine the power of an S4RS when the little 800 is so damn death-defying to ride as it is. I think I'll stay put and just do mods vs upgrading bikes. It's good to be satisfied.

Seems like the nouveau pot is calling the nouveau kettle black dark.

I loved the M900 at first sight in 1993 but couldn't afford one until 1999. I've owned various Ducs since then and I still consider myself nouveau Ducatisti. Less then four years calling out riders as new? I don't think so rookie.  Tongue

Wow my post from March 2009! I love it. Why did you dig to find that? I mean really, why? Huh?

I actually got my Ducati in 06. '06 > '11 is five years of ownership give or take. I do not consider myself new to them, especially since I took that bike apart, studied it, repaired it, maintained it, and researched it, and rode the shit out of it more times than I can count. And never once did I complain about the stop marks on the steering tabs! I think in your effort to discredit me you missed my point entirely. If you've owned several since '99(happy for you BTW) and you still consider yourself new to them then OK. Do you ride your bikes?

Totally. Wait a minute... so you do got a pair!

you're doing a lot of typing and I am getting very little from it. so basically you're saying "I like monsters more than you" and "Im mad that you care about your frame chipping".

settle down dude. It was a simple question, if you dont have an answer for me then carry on and take your senseless trolling elsewhere.

Ya'll do understand that, to the entire rest of the motorcycling world, you're basically arguing over which girls bike is cooler, right?

Large rubber vacuum caps to fit over those tabs seems like a great idea!  Maybe a touch of paint/ primer to keep the moisture off the exposed steel.

Maybe some nail polish on the exposed metal? They have this darling little boutique next to the starbucks that sells just the right colour!

Not trolling, and I did have an answer for you a few posts back. I also gave you some quick snotty advice on how to deal. You got superpissed at me for what came after and therefore missed it entirely, even though the helpful part came first in the transcript. Then you called me a shithead and Raux +1ed it. Let it be known that I didn't call you a shithead. All I did was imply you wore frilly panties.

That's the way it is. Stop banging the bars from lock to lock like an ape and you won't chip the paint off the steering lock tabs. Or be a man and go find some caps for the adjustment screws if it gets your frilly panties in a bunch.

There you go, reply number 4 of this thread. Damn good advice!

Roll Eyes Yet more patronising bollocks from Mr Experienced Old School Real Monster Rider.  Seriously, what is your problem?  Ducati Monster Forum.  It includes all the incarnations.  Even the new ones.  I think the OP's enquiry is a reasonable one to ask - some of us like to keep their rides (and I do stress rides) in as pristine condition as possible.

I actually got my Ducati in 06. '06 > '11 is five years of ownership give or take. Do you ride your bikes?
Roll Eyes Mate if you want to start a pointless, and totally off topic dick-pulling exercise about how long you've owned and ridden motor cycles in general and Ducatis in particular...  Then mine is way make the beast with two backsing bigger than yours Kiss.  But so what?  Your juvenile "I'm a real rider and you guys are pussy poseurs" attitude is trolling in its purest form.

Seems like the nouveau pot is calling the nouveau kettle black dark.... Less then four [five.. six.. seven..] years calling out riders as new? I don't think so rookie.  Tongue
