As ducatiz said, if you are not removing the pistons, soap and water is OK. Brake cleaner does work better on brake dust though.

Re-reading the OP I think I can see the cause of the problem - compressed air. Probly forced some crap past the seals. A tear down of the calipers may be in order.........

Ok, so I took apart the calipers and cleaned out any white grease that was in the seals and reassembled. There was no crap past the seals other than some residual white lithium grease. I have cleaned this out and used the proper caliper assembly lube. Problem seems to be solved. I am headed out for a test ride now.
Moral of the story is don't use white lithium greese on brake calipers unless you want to take them apart. Thanks again guys...

While I am at it, does anyone know what normal temp for brake rotors are after a ride? I used one of those infrared temp guns and they were about 150 after a 2 mile ride around the block. It seams reasonable...

They get pretty hot, they are taking the friction heat right off the pad.

Ok an update on this situation. It seems after some miles the calipers have loosened up. I don't know if it was use or if it was brake fluid lubing up the seals or what, but they definately feel more normal now.
