One Week, a mini movie review

I saw this film last weekend. It stars a 1973 Norton Commando. For most of you, that should be all you need to know, but for the rest of you: A young man, Ben, learns that he has stage IV cancer and about a 10% chance of survival. Now let me interject, there are two kinds of people in the world; those who seek security and safety and those that seek adventure. Ben has been part of the former group and you and I and notables like Captain Cook, Marco Polo, Hillary, Scott, and Amundson belong to the latter group. Ben needs to begin medical treatment immediately but realizes that he has underachieved and played it safe and needs an adventure. So, he takes a week to live before committing to treatment. He buys the Norton (our star), kisses his fiancée goodbye, and takes off on the bike to ride across Canada to the Pacific. I should alert you that this is a low budget independent film. There are no explosions or shootouts or violence to humans, although some of the things that happened to the Norton had me screaming at the screen. This is a film that will make you think and laugh and also stars a great motorcycle. I loved this film and damn well recommend it to the forum. The film is available through Netflix. Saw that movie a few months ago via Netflix streaming. It's a small, low-budget movie. At times the movie moves at a snail pace and it took awhile to get to the point. But overall, nice little film that makes you re-think about life - what you want to get out of it and what you want to leave behind for people to remember you by.

Jaman, It might be too adult for your daughter but your wife might enjoy it. Mine did! I was worried that the cancer issue might bother her (she recently had her own fight with cancer as you know) but I think that common experience with Ben helped her relate to the film.

Reminds me of the old TV show, "Run for Your Life" with Ben Gazzara.

Well they both had stars named Ben. But Ben in "Run for Your Life" didn't have a Norton

I too caught this on netflix this month. I thought the plot was pretty meh, but the cinematography and soundtrack were great, plus it had a neat ending. That bike is gorgeous and it looked stellar cruising across Canada. Definitely a movie I can recommend.

I now want to ride across Canada. I've also wanted a 73 Norton Commando since 1973. I went into a dealership then, talked price, but I was fresh out of school and had no money. So, I kept riding my POS Suzuki 500 titan. It has been a longing never fulfilled.

I knew my 79/80 900 Desmo SS was on it's way out just as a pretty, but needy red 850 MKIII arrived.
I gave Bro-in-law twice what he paid and referbed it and took the starter motor off. Another friend had replaced the bottom end bearings with new "superblends" at about 7,000 mi. I rode it from there in 93 - 2003 (when the first S4R appeared ) and i expect I put 100K miles on it at 10K/yr. It's amazing how much corner speed you can carry on a good Norton shod with K81s Gold Seal, TT100 tires. In college we wanted tyres from England or Ireland.
A good Norton, is as good as there is and extremely reliable (with electronic timing and kick start). Erie smooth at 60 mph on my bike too. You can start them on a dead battery - go figure.
I love em, and they are comfortable, but I'm wimpy. About 75 mi. at a sitting is enough before butt needs a brake.
The English made some really really cool stuff. Not just bikes.

Yeah, that was funny. I imagined that Ben was thinking, "yeah, I'm cool, I'm a biker, I do the wave!"
