Slow drop...

It had to happen eventually, and ironically, in the same manner as I dropped my second street bike (although this time, privately, in my backyard).  While getting ready to clean my 2011 Monster 696 I forgot that I had not put down the kick stand (my frequently wandering mind...) and took the bike for a SLOW drop on the left side (almost saved it).  Interestingly enough, the ONLY damage done was a broken bar end mirror and a very small scrape on the shift lever (not bent, at least not that I can tell, and you can barely notice the scrape).  No damage to the tank, exhaust, etc.

At first I wanted to be upset, but then I realized how well I came out of it!  The bike was VERY EASY to pick up, much unlike the bike I did the same thing with in front of a restaurant, no doubt providing much entertainment for the patrons...

Just posting this to see if anyone else has had the alternative to a typical horror story where the exhaust, tank, etc. were damaged as the consequence of a fall (and I do not have any sliders installed)...

Oh, and by the way, I did get the bike cleaned and oiled the chain, plus, ordered a new set of bar end mirrors...

I haven't dropped mine, but every time I turn my back to walk away I expect to hear CRASH ... That kickstand just makes me nervous 

I'm glad you were able to make it out with only minor damage, both to your bike and ego.

Just be sure to always carry a small wood square to place under your kickstand during hot days. Soft (especially newly paved) asphalt will soften up under the pressure of the kickstand when the temps go up and will eventually give/crumble and your bike will tip over. The wood square will help distribute the weight on the pavement.

I got a 2" x 3" x 1/8" scrap piece of metal with a divet in the middle to calm my terror of the bike falling over

its almost happened to my brother before. happy to hear the bike did not get screwed up bad.

Happened to me last night. I'm blamin on the new bar risers ..

As I was pulling in my parking spot, well moving the bike backwards, I think i pulled in the front brakes little too hard, lost balance and bike went slowly down to the right , was trying to not drop but i think i pulled one of my muscles during the process, and just let he lay down slowly.

Only damage was litlle scuff scratch on the bar end mirror and scratch on side of front brake lever.

Shud have installed the silders

I had a slow laydown last year and was very glad  I  installed my sliders.  I have long ones on the center frame, bars, front and rear wheel.  It did not touch anything but the sliders and I cleaned them up with fine sandpaper.  This was left side, right side would have been a different story.  I will not go into my stupidity for the slow dive.    Sliders are cheap!!
