If they want to sell them as supersports, they will do exactly what they did with the 1098, which was go back to what they know sold well -- which was to drop the 999's design and start with the 916/996/998 look and update it.

Likewise, the second bike looks a LOT more like this bike:

The first bike just looks like yet another SBK design

I agree with Ducatiz except for one thing, the 999 is beautiful IMO.  what's wrong with a Cedici nose/body work to start with anyway? chug chug chug chug chug
oh and does the model come with?  Grin

The exhaust in the picture does need some help. Plate hanger, too.

Which is why it looks believable. Tongue

It even has the cartoonish looking trellis that someone at Ducati seems to favor.

While I would love to see a lighweight supersport using the 1100 evo motor and a SBK frame, I was told it isn't going to happen by Dave R.  Cry

maybe throw some gauges on the 1100 and it wouldn't look so silly. I like the less is more idea.
The 1000 looks beautiful, the exhaust is a little impractical and I can't imaging the OG trellis will make a comback.

A thought: Ducati produces an 1100 or 1200 SS/ST with a wet clutch that does double-duty (albeit not as well as a dedicated bike of either flavor).

Why? Because the people who will buy an ST probably don't feel they need 11ty billion horsepower, and there aren't enough people with a raging hard-on for an air-cooled sport bike to justify a pure version (the reason it got canned in the first place). Maybe with hard bags, ABS, etc. as options.

The SS was ended in 05 because the new design was unpopular and the racing class of the same name had bikes with significantly more output.

the 848 should have been an SS.

seems to me that Ducati is missing out on a lot by not having a bike for that named class of racing.

it would be very interesting to see a 600cc class water cooled 4 valve. I think you'd be looking at about 80-85 hp and if you did it with a superlight bike.. well..
