Bought mine already chopped. If I had a choice, I would have left it. Pacific Northwest weather holds 5 months of rain and a chopped tail makes it not so fun.

Left mine unchopped, but deblinkerfied it using Barracuda's rear tail piece (
http://www.monsterparts.com/p/DN6104A/Barracuda+Rear+Tail+Piece.html
) since I didn't like the bump outs on the stock beer tray. I also have the evotech fender eliminator (turned around backwards to make it harder for speed cameras to see), which doesn't seem to be on their website any longer, for my 07 s2r1k. Pros are it looks great and I didn't have to lop off the tail (although I still think about it regularly). I've also never seen the tail piece on another bike so it's still relatively unique.

Chopped the tail of my '00 900.
In Kansas, "rainy weather" is not a really huge issue.

Not chopped but deflectorized. I like the look of a well chopped tail, but I am an all weather rider and hate swamp ass.

Cut it just for cosmetic reasons. I don't have a problem with swamp ass and I too ride year round.

Mine's a more recent S2R1000 but I did not chop. Went with carbon (no mod) beer tray and Evoluzione plate holder. I'm 50/50 on chops. I like the look on some bikes, no on others. Me? I like the carbon beer tray/tidy plate holder look. I need a place to set my beer.

Bought my S2R8 with the tail chopped, but came with the cut-off portion. Ran it that way for a while, but decided I like the stock look and re-attached the tail. Used the stock tray and signals for a while, then decided to go with the Barracuda tail and a Lightwerkes integrated. Painted the tail to match and found a really nice plate bracket on eBay. Looked pretty good IMO and havent seen another one like it around.

with a hugger and a proper tag mount, almost all of the swamp ass can be avoided with a tail chop

Sorta stock for me. I removed all of the crap underneath the tray and made my own aluminum bracket for my plate. I left the tray because I like the longer lines of the bike. The longer lines help balance the long conti mufflers. I thought about chopping but I also have DP bags and mounts. The bags are shaped to wrap around the turn signals. Maybe if I stop using my bike like a pick up truck, I will reconsider.

I chopped it during a "winter project". All it took was some tape and a hacksaw. I did it for looks.

I chopped it, I'm not much of a bad-weather rider. It just looks better to me, the huge plastic piece looks a little awkward. Maybe the shorter CF/painted versions are more appealing than stock, but the chop was what I went with.
Accidentally took a rainy-ride home this week. Thought the rain would hold out but it got me on the freeway. Backpack was hardly wet, so I still don't regret chopping it.
