Have fun man.

SF is awesome. I love it and miss it.

And if you are into tattoo's check out Goldfield's it is super dope.
My really good friend worked out of there for a while and the artists there are sick.
Super historical for the tattoo movement.

And dive asian food spots are the most delicious.

So the Hotel I am looking to book today is the Monarch Hotel on Geary and Van Ness.  Doesn't look like the nicest place but it is really cheap, seems clean and has some good reviews for the type of traveler i am.  It's really close to the shows which is a plus and I think it is pretty close to a lot of cool stuff from your responses and other threads.

Any thoughts before I book it?

I was waiting for someone to confirm!  I just booked it.  $75 a night.  Not bad.

So I'm less than a month away and trying to do some planning.

I was thinking that I can't be out there and miss there redwoods. Would it be worth it for me to rent a car for a day and head up there? Would I be able to see enough cool things to make it worth it?

No. You should rent a bike and go up there...weather permitting. There are some amazing roads on the way.

There are several places you can see redwoods...probably the closest is Muir Woods, which is in the middle of a fantastic ride. The second closest is probably Armstrong Redwoods, which is also in the middle of a fantastic ride. In fact, if you wanted to make it epic:
1) Rent a motorcycle in San Francisco (see the Local Resources thread - http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=562.0 for several places)
2) Ride to Muir Woods: http://www.nps.gov/muwo/index.htm
3) Ride Highway 1 to River Rd, cut in to Guerneville, and visit Armstrong Redwoods: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=450
4) Have lunch at Bear Republic Brewery (http://www.bearrepublic.com/) in Healdsburg
5) Ride Skaggs Springs Road, the most epic motorcycle road in the western US: ()

Man I really wish I could rent a bike but I wouldn't feel comfortable with all my gear and I haven't rode a bike that is not my monster in 8 years.  I just don't see it happening.  I really wish I could though.

Now you did just convince me to rent the car though.  I WILL NOT miss Bear Republic Brewery.  They make my favorite IPA and I have to get some fresh.

I'm guessing this trip will make me fall in love with San Fransico so I'm assuming I'll be back very soon with the s/o.

Dude...you can't get to within 10 miles of the most epic motorcycle road on the West Coast and not ride it. That'd be an absolute travesty...let go of your fears...even a little bike like an F650 would do. Skaggs is only 11 miles from Bear Republic...

+1 to this, and I'm sure we can help with gear, if it's a prob bringing out

driving these roads in a cage, although "nice", would be masochistic.

So, while moving (not riding) my bike to the basement last week I sprained my knee.  I'll be fine to walk around or whatever but I doubt I'll be able to ride.  The only thing that still hurts is bending it for long periods of time. I do appreciate the offer though guys.

I just got my route from Oakland Airport to my hotel down and now I'm looking at using the Muni and Buses to get around.  I think I've got it all down for now.

So whats up for a meet up somewhere?  I'd love to meet up with anyone Sunday evening so I can meet some fellow DMF'rs and learn more about the city. Hotel is on Geary but I'm willing to meet anywhere.

I might be able to get a beer Sunday evening. Zeitgeist is our usual haunt, but we're flexible.
