If your engine has developed a rod knock will you have to remove the engine and split the cases?

actually the radial mount of the 1098 is built for a 320 rotor with 5mm spacers put on the caliper mounts to allow the 330 rotors
you can drop the spacer and run 320, which are available as 6bolt 15mm offset

I'm completely retarded. 320 15mm rotors will work with the 5mm spacers removed from the calipers, right?

I was thinking back to when I looked at 5 bolt front wheels for my S2R1k (and stock suspension and brakes). There was nothing 5 bolt and 320/10. The only option there was to go custom. Sorry for the confusion on my end.

Yep...the NEW path of least resistance...320 rotors...no 5mm spacer on the caliper mount and a nice 5mm spacer on the hub for the 6 bolt, 5 spoke wheels...

I figure, the brakes were designed for a bike with much more HP and similar weight, obviously, this bike will never be a track bike, and the 5mm difference won't amount to much even with the modest performance upgrades of the big bore kit, Tuneboy, Beast intake, exhaust and lightened flywheel. I think 320 is just dandy. Agreed? maybe I'll add some better rotors later, but its a cafe street bike...it is what it is...

Trav...
yep...all sorts of dismantling going on this week. Heads heading to Millennium for boring and plating and might be ordering Carillo rods...why not at this point!? right?

So are you going to get the bottom end balanced and/or lightened?

Well, its gunna depend on the extent of the damage. I very well might end up with a hot little motor... I'll keep ya guys posted as the headache turns into opportunity! This also brings upon other issues too...better oil cooler, maybe cams...etc...etc..

I don't wanna go over board ( more than I have anyway), as I have another project starting to take shape soon too.

I have a question I hope someone will be able to answer. I have just bought a pair of Ohlins forks off and 08 GSXR1000 to fit my 05 1000Sie, my question is, what is the distance between the bolts (center to center) on the 848 mono block brake calipers and will the fit my new forks?
Thanks in advance

ok...survey for those who have successfully swapped superbike forks on to the 320mm rotors...

6 individual 5mm spacers for the 320mm rotors to the wheels OR 1 5mm machined ring between the 6 mounting points of the rotor and front wheel?

obviously I need to get longer mounting bolts, ordered some Titanium ones in a custom length today....

Contact BrakeTech, they make those spacers.

They're one piece AFAIK.

I would assume 6 separate spacers would allow some wierd torquing of the bolts during heavy braking.

There's a few ways to do this, cheapest is make your own (very simple I did it) you can buy alum. stock in correct thickness trace out shim from rotor & cut it out. You can buy spacers from AF1 that's the only place I could find them. Or have a machine shop make them, there all one piece and stock bolts have plenty of thread. But what I ended up doing is buying Galfer wave rotors with the correct off set they look great and are a full pound lighter then Brembos & loosing 2lbs of un sprung weight was nice touch to a great mod.

That is true
using spacers actually adds unsprung weight and rotational weight altough it is close the axle

Good theory...I refuse to use Galfer products due to how they treated a customer of mine and his ongoing saga with rotors for his BMW, but certainly Braking or EBC will offer a similar application.

Thanks guys!

I have the braking rotors
748r is the correct application
6 bolt 15mm offset

Then CERTAINLY thats the way to go...I wasn't really enjoying the idea of a spacer on there!

Sounds like I'm there...

1098r Ohlins
stock axle
1098r mono block Brembo calipers
Speedymoto 53/56 complete triple assembly
53mm clip ons-to replace the 50mm ones...
848 radial masters
billet wheel spacers to replace the steel ones
748 r Braking rotors
Ceramic bearings (why not at this point, right?)
TPO Titanium pinch an rotor bolts

The only thing left is a new "Hoop" speigler front line to link the 2 calipers together as I'm sure the one I had made 3 months ago

SOOOOOOOoooooo...anyone wanna buy a super clean Showa adjustable front end with brakes, custom powder coated speedymoto clamp and clip ons? Smiley

This project is gunna brake me!

Thanks for the input Raux!
