That GSXR 750 will walk all over a 749 power wise. It's not anywhere near as nice of a bike (IMO), but it's got a MUCH stronger motor. Same thing goes for the SV1000. That thing puts out a lot more power than a DS1000.
True, but an SV1000 has a water cooled V twin, right? I think it makes more sense to compare to a Desmoquattro S4R.
Both have the exact same displacement 996cc, and both produce similar power and torque.

Don't get me wrong, the SV1000 is a fantastic bike, but I'd take an S4R any day.

This looks very informative and I wish I knew what I was looking at. 2v = 2 valve right? So what do you mean 2v starting in 2009? What happened to the models prior '09?
sorry for all my dumb n00b questions

ducati dropped the four valve monster in 09 making the streetfighter their new naked four valve
So all new monsters are two valve air cooled
all streetfighters are four valve water cooled
all superbikes are four valve water cooled

Don't forget the Supersports (2V, air cooled SBK-lights) or the 400 Monster.

was keeping to currently available lineup, the two lines he was talking about and US spec (IIRC 400 was not avail in US)
but yes, hate for him to see a Supersport and get confused.
The Supersport or SS is a 2-valve sportbike similar in looks to the superbike (all bodywork or half-faired bodywork)
they had a 400 (nonUS), 600, 750, 900, 800, 1000 over the years
they also were remembered with the SportClassic or SC lineup
including 1 full and half faired
all SC were 2-valve 1000 motors.
