Advice on possible purchase
«
on:

Hello all. Satyrday I was out with the daughter at my local bike shop. They just brought in on trade a S4RS 07'. Being a Just brought bike shop it instantly caught my eye. It is all black with a grey stripe I believe. The bike was super clean. Well I left with absolutely no intention of getting rid of my 07' gsxr 600 but now that dang bike is the only thing I have on my mind. So I did not get the mileage on it. They are asking $8,995.00 for it. I am planning on going back on Tuesday and trying to strike a trade deal. Is there anything specific I should look for on the bike, listen for etc? Your input is greatly appreciated.

If the bike hasn't had it's first major service you can figure a grand on top of the purchase price.

^^^ yep
I'd definitely look for maintenance history on the bike
Also, I would ask about the expanding tank issue... has this one been replaced?

First major service is what 7500mi? What is the next couple after that? I will try to figure this into my bargening. Just did some quick reading about the tank but it looks like Ducati is replacing them if there is damage. Am I incorrect about this?

Black with Grey stripe..S4Rs, right? Thought you talking about another brand.
Any mods??
Expanding tank..it seems like there's a sticky thread with 11tyB pages regarding this issue.
Can't get over these maint. prices. Sure helps to have a private mechanic! If you're in the PHX area, I can hook you up P!

HA Ha. Yes S4RS. Can you tell I'm new to the Ducati world? I do know my way around the garage a little. I owned a BMW 530i 2003. I had to work on it myself. Either that or go broke. I assume there are maintenance manuals to be had for these bikes. Right?

15K is the first major service.
Working on a Duc isn't rocket science, but there are some nuances that are peculiar to the marque, and certain mistakes make the fee for a pro to do it seem cheap.

Adda boy....gixxers are a dime a dozen. Plus when you hear it with hopefully some Arrows or Termis it will be impossible to wipe that grin off your face.

Did they still have the red key in '07? I believe they did. That is, make sure you get the key with the deal. I bought an '06 SS from a guy who had bought it a couple years prior from a non-Ducati dealer where it had been traded in. The dealership and the new owner were both unaware of the importance of this key and consequently it was lost in the shuffle. Bought it anyway but sure wish it had it.

Maybe but would you sell yours for less than that? I seriously doubt that I would although if I sold mine for 9Gs It would include at least new belts and a valve adjustment.
Speaking of valve adjustments on a Testastretta, changing every shim to get the clearances to the "revised" spec may very well cost big $$$. Well worth the time to do it yourself if you're able to.
cheers
Mike

no, i would sell mine for $50,000 but that's not the point. it's heading towards winter and if the bike has over 10K miles and it's stock it's not a screamin deal. that's all i'm sayin. they're poppin up everywhere fully decked out for around that same price.
