OK after reading and reading and all of your input I pulled the trigger on the 07' S4RS.  It turn es out it has 4600 miles on it and is completely stock.  It has had the tank replaced and I have the paperwork for that it dos have the red key and the card, however not sure yet what that's all about.  All services are up to date from the Ducati dealer here in Charlotte NC.  I ended up paying 7995.00 for it.  Just brought it home 16 miles and holy cow.  Coming from a 07 gsxr 600 what a difference.  I have a lot of questions but will try the search button before I fire away.

Excellent, that'll be a FUN ride!  The red key & card are for the immobilizer.

To expand on this:

Your new bike is equipped with an anti-theft system called an "immobilizer". Basically your key has an electronic chip in it and if the ignition is started without the chip matching what the bike is looking for, the bike turns off.

Each key (the black keys) have a chip in them. The red key is the master key. If you lose a black key, you use the red key to recode the chip in the black key. Do not lose the red key.

Good luck with the bike. I love my S4RS.

STOP... don't look at the acc and mod section. avoid the temptation. you will suffer long and penniless nights.

plus, that bike is beautiful just as it is.

oh and get that new tank sealed with caswell tank sealer asap.  they only replace them once and have done nothing different with the replacement tanks (you get the same problematic tank but just new)
