When you grow up less than 20 miles from Yankee Stadium, it's hard not to be a Yankees fan.

When you sit on your Dad's lap in the right field bleachers and watch them win the World Series, it's hard not to be a Yankees fan.

When you walk down to the dugout and get autographs from Rick Cerone, Greg Nettles, Dave Winfield, and call Billy Martin a Bum, you're definitely a Yankees fan!

True story- I was five or six and my sister is a couple of years older.  Standing with my Dad at the exit to the Player's parking lot to watch the team up close as they came and went.  My Sister saw Goose Gossage getting into his car.  In a blink of an eye, she was under the Police barricade and tearing across the parking lot, waving a ball she got at batting practice, yelling, "Goose! Goose!"  My Dad jumps the barricade to chase her, I'm chasing my Dad, the cops are chasing all of us...  By the time my Dad and I caught up to my sister, she was standing in front of him holding the ball up in front of her.  When the cops got there, Goose glares at them, grumbles something not nice at them, then takes my sister's ball and signs it.  He patted her on the head, then got into his Mercedes.  The cops escorted us back out to the street.

My first (but not last) Police escort at 5 years old!  laughingdp

I know what you think... Wink

But, everytime I've been in Boston, I've had fun.

This has gone far enough astray.

Back on topic...

I don't like the ad or the vehicle.

I think they're both dumb...

LOL, guess I shoulda checked this board once or twice the past week or two.

so...who drives a Juke?.....

I know...greatly enlarged, but started out as small and furry rodents of varying type.....so you could say RUS's like from Princess Bride, only more modern....and yet something slightly different from the Hamsters that drive and pimp the Kia Soul!!!

Uh, I do - traded my Scoobie-Doo Baja in on it (on a whim) almost a month ago. It's a really fun little car (not as fun as say a WRX, but a nice blend of fun and function).

Anyway, when I saw this ad, I figured I'd let Nissan know I thought it was stupid.

Here was my note I sent them

Quote
As the owners of a brand new Nissan (2011 Juke) and as motorcyclists we are not sure what to be more upset about with regards to the "Legend of the Juke" commercial. If we could overlook the violence shown in running down motorcyclists, we would still be offended that you would think such a commercial might appeal to us. Here's a suggestion, stop trying to appeal to 5 year olds, they don't have the money to buy an almost $30k Juke SL. Maybe this will be both our first and LAST Nissan.

and their reply

Dear Kevin,

Thank you for taking the time to personally contact us regarding the Juke and Motorcycles . We apologize that our commercial offended you in any way. It was not our intention to do so.

We appreciate your time and concern in contacting us, and have forwarded your comments to our Advertising Department.

If you have further questions or comments, please let us know by reply e-mail or by calling 1-800-647-7263 and pressing "0" for a live operator.

At Nissan, we are committed to a high level of customer service.

Sincerely,

Darryl

FWIW, this was a different response than other people (who weren't Nissan owners) got.

I love my Baja Turbo...I couldn't see trading it in on a Juke....but whatever works for you!

Maybe that's cause mine wasn't a Turbo.

I bought an 5-speed NA Baja back in 06 as an attempt to slow down and be responsible.

IF I'D BOUGHT THE TURBO, I'd likely still have it.

It was a GREAT little truck, but just too damn slow sometimes.

The fact that Nissan offered me $17k trade-in on a 50k mile car I spent only $23k on 5 years ago was probably a factor. I really kinda bought it on a whim, but I'm enjoying it for now. I'll probably pick up an STI in  couple of years, but for now, with a new baby on the way, I won't be driving in anger all that much.

holy shit.   i'd trade it in too.  Not for a juke, but a 370z or titan or something else.

Z's are nice, but don't fit my life anymore (12 y/o daughter and another on the way).

Titan's are monsters, I don't have a need for that.

I'd have considered an Xterra, but I like heated leather when coming off the mountain in winter.

And the wife is probably going to pick up an X3 in a couple of years so at that point I might trade the Juke for an STI...

Anyway, right now the Juke is fitting in just fine - mid-to-high 20's mpg, AWD, enough power and handling that it's still fun, enough room to do things with the family etc.

I'm sure it's useful once in a while, but it's been more than 20 years since I've owned one and have managed quite well without lol.

Between the utility trailer my company keeps and, if push came to shove, the F250 Crew Cab Diesel my little bro keeps in his fleet, I've got that covered.

And since I downsized from a 26' Sea Ray Sport Cruiser to a 16' Silverline Bay Boat, I don't need that kinda towing capacity anymore either.

Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge those that want em, but I don't.

Love my Nissan Frontier.

I've been beating the shit out of it for 196,000 miles and it just keeps going.

The only major thing I've done was replace the valve cover gasket a few hundred miles ago.

It's still on it's original clutch and pretty much everything else.

I should probably upgrade the shocks, but that's about it...
