Windscreen for winter???

Cold weather's quickly approaching and I'm considering putting a windscreen on the bike. I ride all year and would like to get some of the wind off of me in the winter time. Just curious how effective the monster windscreens are... is it worth throwing $85 at? FWIW, I'm considering the Zero Gravity ST, which is 3" taller than stock.

I don't like this time of year - people start talking about winter  (much too soon)

That being said, I have the ST in front of my 6'3".
Wind hits me at the shoulder joint or an inch into my torso and it hits my helmet at the chin.
I know this because I can see where the bugs are.

It takes only a medium tuck to hide under the wind completely.

I'm not proud of the look, but it's not too bad and it does it's job

i have a oem-style carbon fiber windscreen. looks ok.  decent cold protection.  although theres less wind, there can be more wind buffeting.  helps to tuck in slightly.  if you don't, there can be more wind coming in from behind your neck.  this may be caused by a combination of the windscreen and my clip-ons.  a tightly snapped collar or a balaclava does wonders. 

the only issue i have left for cold-weather riding is my hands.  never really found gloves that were truly water proof and kept me warm during longer rides.  i'm thinking some heated grips for this year.

I've started looking into windscreens as well. My favorite is the DeLight Suzuka for the 696, it's the only screen setup that mimics the last gen monsters. It's beautiful. Too bad it's over $700.

I bought a few blocks of foam today to see if I can model a windscreen myself. I've never done fiberglass work before, so well see how this goes. If it doesn't work at least I'm not out much.

I also bought some off road hand guards to help cut the wind chill when riding. They should be here Tuesday and I'll be able to see I'd I like them and/or if I can use them.


If anyone has come across a windshield that's similar to the Suzuka let me know please.

I've tried 3 different ones in 10 years and settled on the Dart. If you get the black supports, they totally disappear

heated grips are useless IMHO. some people swear by them, but ill tell you that they havent ridden in cold weather like i have.

I have gerbing heated gloves, and they stop working when you hit below 20 degrees. even at 20 degrees, your hands dont feel cold, but they arent quite warm either. the secret is to get the wind off your glove and the only way to do that is to install handguards. which i am doing this winter. I ride until theres snow, so if its 10degrees outside but theres no snow, you will find me out there.

I've got the spoiler version and it does a lot more to protect one from the wind. I also added a set of 'poorDucRider' stays. The Spoiler version is a bit longer than stock and has a (duh) spoiler lip at the top to help kick the air flow up.

I had the dart screen on my bike and just recently switched to the OEM mount and the ZGST screen. Being short also really helps when it comes to hiding behind a screen, with the ST screen the wind hits my visor. It was exactly what I was looking for to do 1500 miles over a long weekend recently.

I do have a question though do any of you that have dart screens find that the light and screen move around a lot at highway speed? I wish poorDuc made some kind of support for that screen.

After extended time at 70 mph or above my light will move a bit. I know they extended the length a few years back, my screen is seems pretty solid.
