Road Trip to Santa Barbara
«

Thinking of doing Highway 1 - 101 from Pacific City to Santa Barbara. Leaving October 24th or 25th. Meeting up in Monterey with these jokers
http://www.millemiglianorthamerica.com/
Then to SB for this show
http://www.elegantcars.com/events/2011-santa-barbara-ca/
Stay in SB over the weekend, maybe Halloween.
Ride home via 101 or I-5 depending on who comes with.
I've had a crazy busy summer and need this. My buy a Multi to get it done in comfort.

I did San Diego to Portland on my '03 800 Monster when I bought it to bring it home. It had the low seat on it at that time which sucked but if it had the standard seat that I put on later I would have had no problems at all. There are sections that are slower through towns and that might put a little more weight on your wrists but it's not terrible. Save your money and do it on the Monster, just get some good luggage and warm gear.
Oh, and when 101 meets 1 you'll see this sign:

Enjoy it! It's a seriously nice section of road.

I went down to SF and back last summer. I was hoping to do it again this year but finances and time did not allow
Maybe next year. It works out well for everyone. The wife and kid get to fly down and see her family. I spend two days riding down, two days riding back, and less of my vacation time with the in-laws

Being of Monster mentality,
I de-stickered the Multi today.
Keeping reflectors though,
as I plan on doing more touring
than hooliganism on this machine
even though it wheelies when passing cars
all by itself.

You should put skull stickers on the reflectors.

What were the temps like? I went down as far as SF last year but that was in the summer. Ain't 1/101 a grand road for a moto trip?

Weather was real good. Chilly the day I left until Brookings. Took out my liner in Santa Ynez, put it back in before heading north. Mostly 60's on the coast, 70's inland. My last 2 days were chilly. Cresent City to Grants Pass, just because of elevation and Cottage Grove home because of rain/ overcast, 48 that day.
I'd do it again this time of year, but I got real lucky with less than 30 minutes of rain the whole trip.
Oh, and I have heated grips, very nice.
