Paso Internacional Los Libertadores between Santiago, Chile and Mendoza, Argentina.  No pussy safety barriers to spoil the view.....

Mrs Ung and I travelled this road 2-up..... unfortunately in a Fiat Duna.... be great to ride it though  Dolph.

One day  Evil.

Wow!  That is incredible!!!  My knee pucks would not survive that...

California coast, Hwy 101, north of San Francisco...

The Devil's Highway in AZ is always fun...

Also in Arizona we've got the white spars, Mt.Lemmon....little hidden gems..you know, fun stuff.

How about the Col de Paiheres in Southern France?

A 1098 going up!  (Very nice, but I would love to do this on a motard! waytogo)

Pictures from the 1098 rider in the video...

Uh-oh ... what's going on here?

« Reply #19 on: October 05, 2011, 07:52:45 PM »

Sorry, I am going to have to say it ... 'what is the fascination with hairpins?'

I just don't get it. A hairpin on a track is one thing ... but some of these roads just seem like a frustrating form of torture. That 1098 video is a case in point:

... see how many gears you can get though on the straight bit before you almost come to a complete stop before you limp around the corner trying not to stall
... repeat continuously until you vomit or lose concentration and plummet to your death
... or maybe you'll be saved the trouble by being taken out by oncoming traffic

The trip back down will be even worse. Fluid transitions from one corner to another ... that's my preference.

Or perhaps it is just my own lack of ability and riding insecurities coming out. laughingdp

Hey Raux and Ung you'll have to come to the next WDW, on the trip to Misano and back theres lots of Swiss, Italian and Austrian passes to explore... bow down  sometimes we even turn round a go over them for a second run... laughingdp.
My only problem is that I'm driving to sweeper van with spare bike and lots of guys luggage but even so I have a ball keeping up with the bikes, not sure about my passenger though... bang head (they seem to loose thier voice).

Lars certainly enjoyed last years trip and posted quite alot of pics on this forum ... waytogo.

As Betty stated that it looks like torture, well sometimes it feels that way but I say "no pain no gain" and the smile on your face at the time and the memories are all worth it... Dolph

well, that road is a bit unsafe when full of campers and people with navigation who's saying to stop in the turn  Grin

I rode it this summer in early morning, with no soul on it  Dolph

My Dolph turns

That's... what I love to see/ride.

To echo suzyj, I'm not big on hairpins.

Yes, I do enjoy them as part of a longer ride.

But I like to have a longer ride in between them.

preferably one with corners and hills.

I would rather ride a flat road with lots of corners, than a hairpin stair-step up the side of a mountain.

Unless that's a prerequisite to connecting with another twisty route.

Then, I don't mind the hairpins.

Great Ocean Road Victoria Australia

Right in my own backyard (well Heatherp's anyway).  A lovely ride if you can avoid the caravans and ever present Police...  Wink waytogo.

And how about the Crown Range Road, highest sealed road in NZ..

I'm probably going to be testing some of the Chile/Argentina roads once I get all the paperwork taken care of and I can buy a Monster down here.
