I am not only new to Ducati but new to motorcycles in general. This will be my first bike and I want to know if it is a good deal. I am signed up for an MSF course already by the way.

The bike is a 2006 Ducati Monster 620 with 12,xxx miles. It comes with a scorpion helmet and jacket and has the following extras:

-new tank (replaced because of recall)
-rear seat cowl
-MIVV Carbon Fiber high mount exhaust
-Competition Werks fender eliminator
-Speedymoto Billet open belt cover
-Baricuda mirrors
-Pitbull Rear stand

Tires have 6k miles left. Oil changed every 3k miles and valves adjusted every 6k miles. The 12k miles service has already been performed.

Ive negotiated him down to $4,350.  What do all of you experts think of this?

IMO it's about $500 more than I would pay so split the difference but ONLY if you have receipts to prove the service has been done.  The difference for me if it's in pristine shape then I'd consider the price you are talking about.  Also, I highly doubt the tires have 6k left in them unless they are made of concrete.

Personally 99.9% of the time gear thrown in has 0 value. Gear is only worth something if it fits. Do you know that brand, model and size of helmet fit you well? If not negotiate that stuff out of the deal and drop the price. Plus - who wants to wear a used helmet... ick.

It does have some nice aftermarket parts - the MIVV and speedymoto in particular. The stand is a top quality one and will be a handy item. Rear stands are critical items if you're trying to do all but the most basic DIY maintenance - and really are needed for some of the most basic like chaining and lubrication of the chain.

Question - what color is it? Depending on the color/ submodel of the 620 that seat cowl might have been a factory item - so not exactly a bonus. If it is a Dark 620, they were lower priced by a few hundred dollars from the factory and did not come with that cowl.

The current owner is also a friend of mine. He is the 2nd owner and has babied it. I know he had the 12k maintenance done because I went with him to drop the bike off a few months back. The 1st owner was a professor at Duke University and according to my friend (who is also my fraternity brother) the 55 year old professor babied it as well.

It is red with the bars on the frame also being red (not the dark version i guess especially bc is has dual disk brakes). Bike has never been dropped and has always been garaged. The helmet and jacket fit, I have tried them on and I dont mind that it is used because I know who used it very well.

He actually had a guy offer him $5200 4 months ago for the bike (again I was there so I know this is true) but it wasnt for sale at the time.

Naturally, being a friend and fraternity brother, I wanted to find a price that worked for both of us. I am fairly confident he could sell it for more than the $4350 he is asking I pay. I just want to be sure that I am not getting a terrible deal and that 4350 is a fair price for a bike with absolutely no damage and that has been babied.

My Dark 620 had dual disks. That's not a 100% guarantor of it being a Dark vs not.

But being red it's not a dark - so it came from the factory with the passenger seat cover cowl and it should have the 'bikini' fairing that goes above/around the headlight.

Other things you need to check on - keys. You should have two black and one red. A missing black key isn't a huge deal as they can be replicated. If the red key is missing you're looking at trouble. The red key is used to disengage the immobilizer system if it gets tripped. IF that system gets tripped and you've no red key, it's about $1800 in parts alone to get the bike running again.

The price doesn't sound bad, especially if you're paying some premium for the knowledge that it's in good shape with no mysteries waiting for you.

Thank for the replies! Seems like a fair deal for both my friend and I.

Yes it does have the red key. He made sure to point out the importance of having it when I was going over the bike. Looks like everything is in line. Now I just need to actually learn to ride! haha
