Havnt checked bike yet. Will do full assessment weekend.
Thx for letting me vent here. That bike in price terms is worthless but to me she is priceless and only material thing of value I own and proud of.
Carlos - I appreciate the offer. Very kind of you.
I will check the link. I have to find out if I can somehow just buy the carbon cover. That is what it seemed done but the inside may be ok. Any info if that is doable?
As for insurance, I won't be claiming it. From looks so far the pipe is the biggest. Will see if gauge is busted or tank dent n mainly if engine is ok. Premium will kill me in future if I claim since I have tons tkt. Besides there is no report etc filed at the time so not sure how that works.
We were talking about buying choke for that trailor too. Darn. I thnk the trailor suspension is crappy if it has it.
pm sent,
as for the gauges, if they're busted, remember you have to options [imho]:
1. go for new one OEM, upwards of $2000.00 or reflash EC, [aprox $250.00+s/h] and install any gauge you like ... as said this is mho .. I'm no expert, but been there ...

Just so you know an insurance claim for a bike falling off the trailer will go under the coverage of the vehicle towing the trailer. I had a friend have the same thing happen when he was towing his bike and they told him that is how it is done and that is how he did it.
So how much do you like your friends is a good question to ask

Coming from a family that owns a trucking company that uses flat bed trailers to haul heavy building materials (and before that heavy equipment) my genes are geared toward tying stuff down. Know what you are doing and use the proper equipment. Sounds easy but it's not. I can't believe the way I have seen people strap stuff down in pick ups and trailers!
If it looks "iffy" then it probably is.
Again, sorry for your woes. I am sure there are several threads buried in this forum regarding tying down bikes for transport. I don't need to see them but I am sure other folks do. Nothing worse than seeing your pride and joy tossed from a trailer/truck bed because you didn't secure it properly. The worst injuries are the ones that are self inflicted.

I really really appreciate this forum and some of the members that offered some help and info. It means a lot and makes me glad I am part of DMF family. I got friends that I ride with that even laugh when hear about this. I don't understand ppl but my instinct reaction is not to laugh at someone's misfortune. But I think venting here with DMF members and discussing helps. I have zero mechanical fixing skill so it means a lot to learn from everyone here. Thanks again.
It will be a winter project to look into fixing her up and out on the road. Time to start saving up again. It's a roller coaster with bikes. You got to pay to play.
My problem now will be when ride this bike, I will wonder what else is wrong and be paranoid about it. Scuffs are fine but It will be on my mind if something in engine etc is loose etc. I am guessing things need to be re-torqued, tightened etc this winter.

I owe a PIF and I have a set of 620 forks if you need em
I will keep that in mind. I think it is just a scuff (hope so) but will assess in winter to see what is going on. thank you so much for offer and will update you in winter.

My condolences to you good sir, that is a gruesome sight! I only know a fraction of what you're going through, as I too have had my bike go down on a trailer before. I was still inexperienced, and had about a hundred highway miles to cover to get to the service shop for the 6k maintenance. A good friend offered his truck and trailer to help me get it down to the shop and back. Before we even got to the highway, he cut a corner too tight, pulled half the trailer up over a curb, and I watched before my eyes my beloved monster tipping over in the trailer! Luckily for me, not only did the bike stay in the trailer, but the frame slider held the bike up off of the side railing. Suffice to say, after we got her stood up and secured again, I took the longest hundred mile trip
EVER
.
I will keep my eye on the WTB section; perhaps I can help you out with some replacement parts. Best of luck on your monster (and sanity) rebuild...
Glad you did not have major damage. I looked at the trailer again and it really needs to be braced. A buddy and I bought it this summer but really need to work on it. Need to get Choke installed and braced big time since it flexes. Any info or links etc, I appreciate sharing the info.

Will keep that in mind. Have not attempted to start the bike yet. I have a feeling she will be alright (power of positive thinking). I am hoping it does not need work even though it is scuffed up a lot on the top part of the gauge. Wow the price on the OEM you show is ridiculous. One needs a F U money to buy that I would assume.

Good to know. But I will say this in on a serious note. In a group ride with friends, things are bound to happen. I have heard of group rides where one gets clipped or hit from behind by another biker and they get sued. I personally find that deplorable when it is an accident. Intentional stupidity that causes accidents is another story. I was clipped by a rider beginning of season with luckily very minor damage. I didn't accuse rider to pay for damages and would not consider it. What i didn't appreciate was the rider friend not even calling next day to check up on me ( Ofcourse I will never ride with him )
In this case, we all had a great time in W Virginia riding. The driver let us stay at his grand ma house. We rode together and used his truck and attached my trailer (co-owned). Even if he was not exactly riding slow on the bumps or whole way and even though they help put my bike up on the trailer (since I am worthless at knowing how to do any of this stuff but need to learn) , in the end
It is my responsibility and mine alone. There has got to be honor amongst friends, riders in general. When ride in group something is bound to happen. Am i alone in this thinking ?

You have a good point. I need to dig into DMF threads and learn best ways of doing this and best straps to use. Yes, this was a self inflict. No doubt about it. It's like when I ride and I see pickup with ladders or hauling anything, I stay far far away and clear from them as possible for this exact reason (things falling off, like..

Best way to learn is by doing. The first time I started wrenching on my bike I about had a panic attack that I was going to irrevocably damage something on my girl... my friend who had been encouraging me to start modding the bike nearly had to slap me to get me to calm the @#$^ down, at which point I realized it really wasn't that hard.
If you don't already have one, get a service manual. That will help you for disassembly/reassembly procedures. I tore my 750 down to the frame last winter to fix some paint damage (crappy battery vented acid on the frame), and the service manual was invaluable. You'll also get a lot of respect from fellow Duc riders who pay the shop to do all of their work.
I also know what you mean about the paranoia from wondering whether you reassembled something correctly. Take lots of pictures as you tear down and rebuild, and my trick for keeping nuts/bolts/miscellaneous pieces together was a labeled ziploc bag for every step in the assembly (e.g., "Triple Tree Bolts, Front rotor bolts, rear seat latch parts, air box miscellaneous, etc). I think the ziploc trick more than anything ensured that everything got back to the right place, then a torque wrench and a couple of bottles of red loctite later I'm not horribly worried about anything falling apart. Future disassemblies are another matter, but that's something to worry about in the future.

Good advice.
I always cringe when I see people working on bike and see they are like guessing this goes here and there etc. Just freaks me out. Anyhow, having never fixed anything, I got to learn from the basics of using tools and on. So you can see I got long ways to go. I do change my own oil and lube my chain etc. Need to step it up now.
[Howie]
I will have to inspect what my bike and see what she needs soon when I have access to the bike as it is at a friends shop. Glad it is end of season (never thought i would say that before).

For starters, haven't done heavy assessment yet. Just great
Time to save again for this too. But I should not complain, it could have been worst.
headlight bezel (got extra bucket, so that will take care of that )
replace frame slider (speedy moto did a great job saving her)
Pipes Oh the Pipes... DP Remus Looking into how Carbon Fiber can be replace. Need to open it up and see if further damage. This one is the biggest expense of all I am looking at.
Front Fender
Bike Stand is bent. Not sure if it can be straightened or get a used one somewhere
Gear Shifter bent. Hopefully can bend it back or find a used part
Rear set - have asked someone to see if they can weld the aluminum as it is broken. Or look for used one (left side)
Handle bar - needs replacement
oh my CRG shorty brake lever golden one .. Broken... need to replace
oh my CRG clutch lever the adjuster is broken but seems to be usable
CRG mirror - done needs replacement
forks - seems to have some damage on it but I am not 100% sure yet... just great..
need to test Rotors - those were expensive althon replacement I did. I pray they are not warped.
Speed Gauge - seems to work but is bruised up badly. (If I can find plastic case I can repair)
Tank dent - seems minor
Tank clip - broken need to replace that
Bar end - i only had one and that is damaged.
-- need to have mechanic friend tear her up and me start learning fixing things and see more injury... darn it.
oh before I forget, any recommendation on what type of tie downs are best recommended? (for transporting a bike... I cringe at the idea now)

I use these for both of my bikes. The safety clips are great since I can keep the straps a bit looser and keep tension off the suspension.

Pit bull makes a stand that goes through the rear axle and locks in place. That and front straps on the lower triple and you should have no problems with bouncy things.
