what out for misrepresented s2r on ebay

just giving warning to anyone out there that is bidding on item #300614344446 06 monster s2r. i recently attempted to purchase the bike, based on words and advertisement, i put down a deposit ($200). drove over 4 hours, kind of in shock that bike is opposite of what the guy has listed. frankly, its been stored half of its life outside, it has irreversible sun damage and just plain cosmetically not cared for. after spending part of the day getting there, going over the bike, decided not to purchase based on misrepresentation. NOW, the person will not refund deposit BC i decided not to purchase, stated i waisted his time and it isn't his fault BC i pulled out of the sale. If anyone out there bidding, just be aware. its nothing that stands up to in description, i just hate to see someone else deal with this guy, he's plain crooked, and has no ethic. just putting it out there BC everyone that i have dealt with, owners and dealers, and when it comes to the last 16 years of ducati ownership, never dealt with a ass like this. so beware.

There's only one S2R on eBay right now (
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ducati-Monster-S2R1000-/300614344445?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item45fe02defd#ht_500wt_1182
) and I'm bidding on it right now!
Is this the bike you're talking about? If so, thanks for the warning...I haven't passed the reserve yet, although I did reach out to him about buying it if the reserve wasn't hit.

Why would he give you the deposit back? You should have looked at it before you bought it. It was a $200 lesson.
A motorcycle... OUTSIDE??? the horror!!!!

outside or in, doesnt matter, misrepresentation is the principle. your right, 200 dollar lesson, but you know what, if it wasnt for decent people selling, ebay wouldnt be in business either. I have bought several things sight unseen until they arrived, never once disappointed. I went over emails, phone conversations calling it a cream puff, it wasnt, so it is what it is. im just warning people, take it for what its worth.

Looks OK for a 5 year old bike to me.

How bad are the scratches? My bike is an '05 and despite my greatest care, it just doesn't have show-car quality paint anymore. Some aging is unavoidable.

medal parts, faded, can barely read oil level bc the clear is faded, forks, odometer encasement, most medals are faded. i have seen enough 6 year old bikes to understand that wear happens. age is age. my 916 is 14 years old, with 25k on it, doesnt compare, and still has original paint on it and is in great condition. 01 r1100s, 44k, excellent, never repainted but cared for mechanically and cosmetically. even the medal doesnt show fade, both just stay inside when not ridden, and get cleaned after riding, and get a days worth of full cleaning, motors and all, every winter. not hard. besides that, my point is advertise correctly, dont mislead.

Yeah, but what you have to consider is that most people don't take care of their bikes the way you do. I am super-picky about my bikes when I buy them too, and one thing I've learned is no high res pix = no bid.
I don't think it's a case of misleading, it's more his pictures are just too small to make a good call - and you were maybe a bit too optimistic perhaps?
I think we've all been there.
Good luck with the search!
Cheers,
Adam

The fact that he has no high res pics is lame. Almost everyone has a digi camera capable of taking pictures large photos.
I've been burned by other's definitions of "like new" and "very clean" as well.
Could it be that these monsters just have lower spec finishes than you were used to with the 914?

deposits are often nonrefundable, it covers his ass with regards to ebay fees (insertion/listing, etc) and time certainly is money.
sounds like the bike was ridden and the finish reflects that. bummer there were no high resolution pictures, but if you didn't ask for any before sending a $200 deposit, that's not something fair to complain about. If you did ask and he didn't have any, and you sent the payment anyways, that's the risk you take.
the bike IS 5 years old. if it was free from dents and rash and mechanically sound, that'd be pretty nice.
