all carbon fiber including the termi pipes were really faded and no clear left
--snip--
I have 14 year old CF stuff on my bike that just finally started to look old.

sounds like normal carbon from many of the carbon manufacturers that was on a bike that got to play outside.

your 14 year old carbon sounds like its been stored in an unlit vacuum.

just sayin, carbon parts fade and yellow under normal condition unless you clear them (with uv protectant clear).

I've bought about 10 bikes long distance.  Most from Wisconsin (Huh?) for some reason, a lot of Cagiva and old Ducati owners there... Huh?

Probably Peter Egan's fault. Grin

most of my carbon parts(minus pipes) came from a guy here in charlottesville va that makes carbon fiber for ducs and high end cars, so maybe his carbon held up better,i know ferrari people love his quality , im not a big fan of carbon for street bikes just for that factor of not holding up, most of mine is painted over.. but oh well, there are some nice s4rs popping up here and there around here in Va, far more than s2rs, so the search continues.

I've used eBay to buy bikes, but it has to be within a couple hour drive so I can check out the bike during the daylight hours.  Pictures hide too much wear and corrosion.  Also, descriptions such as "mint condition" and "runs great" are often just plain wrong.

The pictures of DrDesmocedeci's Triumph ST do look nice, but I wouldn't really consider those high-resolution pictures.  I'd want to see a lot larger pictures via email in order to get me to make the trip.  I helped my brother buy a bike this summer.  We looked at maybe 10 bikes.  Every time he got excited about a bike it had pictures like the ones shown in your seller's auction.   When we would see the bike in person it would look terrible.  Pictures hide quite a lot of corrosion.  The people with the best bikes took the best pictures and displayed all the flaws and were willing to send the orginial high resolution pictures via email.

Good luck with your search.  FYI there is a nicely customized SR1000 outside of DucPond.  That is only 2-3 hours from Charlottesville.

yeah, i talked to that guy before and to duc pond about the bike.Over 5k in cool customized stuff, great bike, people at duc pond rave about it,  just pushing me into S4r prices at the $8600. Just hard to recoup your money when you go that far with stuff. i have been there, done that with bikes. Exhaust, ecu, air is all i do now and ride the hell out of it. For 7-8 grand im going s4r.

Yeah, I took them down after it sold, but in addition to the 1024x768 I had the original 12MP pictures up there too in a different gallery.  But you get the idea ... Those of us who take care of our stuff have zero issue putting loads of pix up.

I'd rather have someone be pleasantly surprised than go "WTF?" when they show up.  I have owned about 25 bikes the last 4 years, and have never once had anyone feel that the bike was misrepresented when I sold it.

Cheers,
Adam

Edit: Reuploaded the hi-res pix  ... This is what I meant by "hi-res"  Grin

(Click "View All Sizes" then original, it's 4000x3000.)

Well, except for the price.
