2005 Monster S2R 800 (yella)

I have a 05 s2r 800 with handle bar risers on them. I didn't put them on i bought it from the dealer like that (used bike). I don't know what kind are they or anything about them. What does it take to bring it back to stock height?

I have ridden the stock barebone s2r800 and prefer that before i goto clip ons.

You'd probably be able to just unbolt the bars, remove the risers, and bolt it back up.  You might need to adjust the wires/lines a bit, but shouldn't be a big deal.

BUT, you'd need the stock bolts as the ones on there now are too long.

Where to cop those bolts??

and on a scale 1-10 how hard with this be for a total noob to do this by himself?

any hardware store  will have the metric cap bolts needed.  Not sure on the length but measure the riser height and subtract that from the bolt you have now.

Does any know off the top of their head?? (i don't have the bike yet because it is being shipped from WI. i should be getting it in like 3 days)

I'm getting getting everything ready for its grand arrival. The other thing i bought was frame sliders. Now i'm pretty sure i will have to adjust the suspension to my weight being a solid 265. (i was a football/gym junkie) Still going to gym but not playing football in college (had the chance decided not to ^^).

Am i missing anything else?? I wanna keep it minimal till i get more experience on the bike. I figure sliders would help me get through those miles.


I wanna be able to do track days for fun/leisure instead of skydiving. I was in the process of getting my licence for that.

You could always leave the risers on for a while. Depending on your height, you might prefer them. I never noticed a real handling change when I installed mine. Unless you were a 3' tall football player, the risers won't put you sitting upright on the bike.

I still think you should try the "leave 'em for now" method. Sure would be easier, and give you time to find the right bolts. I always aim for easy/cheap solutions before I put effort into mods (or un-mods, in your case).

Yea the first major upgrade i was going to do/ or get done was ohlins suspension. couldn't think of anything else better to do first.

This has also been my philosophy as well. These types of mods can always be changed back if you don't like it but you need  to spend some time with it so you can compare.

i have the same bike and it was cramping up my back something fierce.. i was used to riding a 900ss which is more leaned over and my back never once hurt on that.

i put clipons on my monster that dropped the bars about 2" from original.. ahhhh...

FYI there is TOO MUCH OIL in that bike.

The oil sight window should look empty when the bike is on the kickstand.  Oil level is to be measured with the bike upright.

How tall are you? and weight
