Just to muck things up a bit further, I really think he should a 950 Super Enduro.

The 950se is the same as my 950smr
Just a different front head pipe, wheels and tires. Front brakes may differ as well.
I can't imagine that much torque on dirt.
The se and smr are few and far between.
Classifieds on advrider would be your best bet.

Ooooh, on ADV
"Up for sale is a mint 2008 KTM 690 R Enduro with complete dual sport and supermoto set ups. The supermoto kit contains the Brembo monobloc front caliper,
Brembo Supermoto rotor, steel braided lines, Brembo master cylinder, supermoto brake caliper adapter, and factory KTM supermoto fender.
The dual sport kit includes the DirtStar wheel set, Galfer over-size wave rotor, Brembo front caliper, steel braided line, Magura master cylinder, and KTM dual sport front fender. Both sets of rims have either dual sport or supermoto sprockets with cush drive hubs, and wave rotors, in the rear. Comes with FMF Powerbomb header, FMF Q4 Titanium muffler, KTM rubber mounted bar risers, black wrap around hand guards, and a Corbin cabonfiber weaver seat. The Red Bull graphics are rare indeed and not sold to the public. Takes about an half hour to completely swap from supermoto to dual sport. Bike has approx. 1870 miles on it. The fuel injection makes this an easy push button starter, cold or hot. Needs absolutely nothing. "

Well, I may have to change my vote for that particular 690.
Asking price?

the adventure is a fine bike indeed.
I vote he gets a 640 adv and then sells it to me for a greatly reduced price so he can get the 690.
