I can do that stuff on a smaller (Lighter) bike. Or at least I used to be able to do that stuff, its been a long time. That thing is just too big for me. Back in the day I came to the conclusion that the CR 480/500 was too much for woods riding. Traction was broken too easily and would cost drive up steep hills and at other inopportune times. The 250/350 range was the sweet spot. Of course those were 2 strokes, so I would think that modern 450/500 4 strokes would be good. Never really had one out in the woods.

That thing he's riding is an 1100 I think? I know it must have plenty of girth and weight. Well anyway if he can ride it then good for him but its not my thing.

This is pretty much my thing.

bang head bang head bang head bang head

So the KTM dealer cleaned out the carb.  The pilot jet was clogged.

But they couldn't get the bike to run.  It would only backfire?  Valve clearances checked out.  KTM recommend they look at the timing.  Sure enough there was the problem.  Unfortunately the problem was more than expected.  The key on the crank shaft was ruined, a few teeth were missing on the starter and the starter clutch is on it's last leg.  Seems like a lot of damage for 3,000 miles.

Guess who's not happy?  I've started a claim with paypal.  When I notified the previous owner he thought the bike wasn't starting because the carb needed some adjusting to our elevation.

I'm having a hard time believing this bike ran well, was picked up by the shipper in Austin, delivered to me and the crank key was ruined during shipping.

So what's the word, Frank?

Oddly enough, I've had my hands on a 990 SMT for a bit of work, first KTM for me.

Refreshing, as the folks who designed it seem to have spent a bit of time actually working on it.
It really shows.

As opposed to the folks who have designed the later model Ducs.
Who seemed to have spent a lot of time on the assembly line, which is all well and good.
But they've thrown the service/repair folks under the bus.

All the parts are in and the bike is being put back together. It's going a little slower than usual because the dealer also works on snow mobiles.   Snow mobilers are having a good season.   And I'm in no rush.  We received another 8" of wet snow yesterday.

PayPal stepped up and is covering the cost of the repair.

You know what the shittiest commuter bike on the planet is? A high-strung dirtbike with a close ratio gearbox and an on/off switch for a throttle.

I think I was extraordinarily lucky not to get a ticket or 12 on the way in to work this morning on the Husky.  Dolph
