I'm running the Pirelli MT 60-Rs, they're very good on road and not bad off road except for mud, they are worthless in mud. I've hit some pretty hardcore powerline trails and it will do them, the 17 inch front tire does give some arm pump as the rocks bang it around. Probably will get a second set of rims and tires that I'll swap on for planned days of offroading

i really do like the thumpers. while i (really)like going 150mph, i don't need to do it. i prefer light weight off road. esp if i have to pick it up a few times.  waytogo
i'm thinking 690adv or gs800. something good offroad and that can hold some luggage and me on a decent trip. 

Triumph Tiger 800XC sounds reasonably up your alley and is getting rave reviews head to head against the F800GS

Looked at some Fly gear the other night. The rep was actually there and gave me the rundown on their stuff.

He basically said its mid level quality and priced stuff.

He showed me a mx helmet that was carbon/Kevlar and it was REALLY light weight. Seemed like good build quality. It was $259. I'm somewhat tempted. 

He also mentioned that their boots are more entry level and wouldn't hold up as well as a higher end brand.

I'm going back tomorrow to try some stuff on.

I'm going back tomorrow to try some stuff on.

As far as offroad boots go, I LOVE my tech 8's.  I've had 'em for years and they are holding up quite nicely, provide unreal support and i can take the inner boots out to wash 'em when i get home.

yeah, Klim gear seems to be like the Rev-It of offroad....well made for exactly that demographic....I think the only better ADV stuff would be BMW branded ADV gear that they sell to their GS customers...but it is pricey as hell...

I still have a pair of Tech 8s too, really quality, well made boots.  I bought them in '00 and they are still in ok shape other than needing new soles.  My only knock against them is that the soles (even when they were new) aren't quite stiff enough for my taste (I like really stiff soles) and if I screw up big jumps badly enough I bruise the bottoms of my feet - screwing up the same jumps in my Axo primes doesn't hurt my feet (I'm quite expert at screwing up)  Dolph.   Also the replaceable sole insert is too far back and I wear out the not-easily-replaceable bit just in front of the replaceable insert  laughingdp

The Kilm gear seems pretty good.  I haven't owned any.  The few pairs of pants I've seen seemed well built, but not obviously any better than any other high end is pants.  Also, I don't like off road gear with pockets (I'd never use them) or over-the-boot style (gets shredded on the first ride and is a liability for hanging up on stuff - tried that once) and it seems that most kilm pants I run across are built with both pockets and over-the-boot styling.

Well, all the stuff isn't in yet but should be by next week. The goal was to supermoto this bike and get as much gear as I could with the money left from the sale of the 999 which was $2k

I have (or have on order) a set of Warp9 sumo wheels (orange hoops, orange hubs, black spokes) these also come with a sprocket and rotors which is nice.

A set of Shinko tires that are equivalent in stick to pilot powers (according to the Rep I talked to about my application)

A Fly Trekker helmet in black with a silver shield. Good enough for street and trail.

A pair of goggles.

A KTM brand chest/back/upper arm protector

A pair of KTM brand gloves (they fit the best)

A set of KTM hard parts radiator guards

An Enduring Engineering tall seat

A pair of Sidi Crossfire boots. I didn't want to skimp on these.

Pants, jersey, knee and elbow protection will be in the spring when I can get into the woods.  I'm totally sold on the knee brace btw. Pricey though.

Not too bad for $2003.98

and I found another good "road" that will make a trip over worthwhile for you, Mush Paw Road is far more of a trail than anything
I'm trying to string together a loop of roads that would keep me off the pavement for as much of the day as possible and already have a good few hours covered
