No key for my 99 monster! Where is the key code hidden?

If I wanted to get a key made for the lock set of a 99 monster. Is there a location I can look to find the key code to have a key cut? I have had this done for Kawi's and honda's because they will hide it on the ignition switch or on a helmet lock, but as of yet I can find no key code on the monster.

You have the original papers? It would have come with a metal tag as part of the original key set that has the code to cut a key.
Otherwise a good locksmith would be able to make you keys. But that'll cost a bit

You can pick up plenty of standard black keys at f.i. ebay. Cutting is possible at any good locksmith, made easier if you have the little metal tag on your originals. Anyway, a good locksmith should be able to recognize which kind of motherkey to use.... The problem might be that you have to program the key for your immobilizer (I think a 99 monster has an immobilizer?) which only can be done if you have the famous red key and/or the keycard with the code. Look also the other threads on this forum.

First immobilizer equipped bike was 2001...
There's a $3 Kawasaki key-blank that fits. The 2 times I had to have a key made for a lock cylinder it cost me about $50. If you do go that route, do NOT take the lock-smith anything but the ignition cylinder. The tank and seat lock use a smaller # of tumblers and therefore not the entire key. Only the ignition cylinder uses all the tumblers which is 6 BTW.

Thanks duck stew!!! That's the kind of helpful hint I have been looking for. I bought the bike as a winter project, so no keys or history. Just a title and a bunch of spare parts. I will be running by my locale dealer to pick their brains about locale locksmiths or possible some other ideas. I have a few old honda's and there where only a few cuts of keys made for some of thier lock styles, so I lucked out with going to locale motor cycle junkyard and sorting thu their key bin till I found a match. But I think that was a once in million shot and they don't do many ducatis.
Thanks sad panda but I got none of that helpful stuff like key codes
Thanks ducej. This bike is a not immobilizer equipped bike and that I am very glad for. Its a nice simple carbed bike. But it is missing an iginter box and wholly crap are those things expensive!

Learning everyday more about those Monsters
. Really didn't know that immobilizers only were introduced in 2001. Sometimes beauty is in simplicity
, less electronics = less hickups.

yeah, you're lucky that you only need keys and not a suite of electronic gizmos. You could get industrious and replace the keyed ignition switch with a switch switch like a race bike.

I like the way you think sad panda but what if I go into the store for a gallon of milk and some with race bike experience see's my sweet switch set up and goes for a joy ride.... I got ahold of a lock smith today and he said he will pull the lock cylinder and cut me two keys for about $100. So my next step will be seeing what works on this winter bike project I got. Thanks too all!!!!!!

Look like you've got it handled.
I seen a couple folks to who use switches on a street bike - you have to be a little more crafty is all. You don't just stick it where the key goes. I've seen ones inside an air passage on a fairing, so you had to reach in and feel for it. Another version I heard of on a naked was mounted faced inward on the frame.
