So I like to have all my ducks in a row because I rarely wait after I buy something to mod it. I'm thinking about swapping the large single headlight out for one of those dual side by side lights. Does anyone here have any info on that? Your help is much appreciated. chug

Dunno of anybody who's done this on a 796 yet, but if it fits 696 it will also fit 796....

So you might like to take a look at these:

Make sure to buy a quality lamp! Thats the best advice I can give. I think the one from Monster Parts is pretty good and each lamp is a 4" diameter which is a nice fitting size for a 796. As far as mounting the lamps and the clusters, its pretty much up to you. Speigler USA offers some pretty good LSL clamps that are simple and bolt directly onto your forks. Or you can simply buy stock aluminum, cut it, bend it, and round it off like I did.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

http://spieglerusa.com/lsl-headlight-brackets-3284.htm

The 51/53 mm should work but it comes down to personal preference on where you want the headlights to sit on the forks. The forks are tapered so the top and the bottom of the fork are different diameters, and depending on where you want the headlight to sit could change the bracket you purchase.

Also, you'll need to manufacture a custom bracket for the instrument cluster because, as is, the cluster mounts to the stock headlight. This part of the mod isnt too bad. I'd just have some spare hardware and some aluminum to cut and play with available before you start.

make sure you use decent thickness AL for the dash bracket. Having your dash fall into the wires behind your headlight at speed... not a nice feeling. The AL had vibrated and oscillated with the wind til it failed. stepped up to thicker diamond plate this stuff.

here's the LSL brackets on SBK forks. You can flip it over so the turnsignal mount is on top as well.
I have the 51/53. I had to mount them on the lower part due to the clipons taking the upper 53 space.
But I like the light lower.
