I agree, too bright will actually distract and give that "dear in the headlights" effect. Especially on unlit roads.

What is the life expectancy of the "tailblazer"?

The tailblazer unit is a halogen base.  You can buy the halogen bulbs at home depot or anywhere for $5-10 bucks.  The base is solid state and mine has worked now for the last 8 years.

It can be moved frrom bike to bike easily, just like changing a light bulb.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

This talk about 'overkill' confuses me  Cool

I like the beta-tester's comment:
Bernard, you're completely crazy, but in a good way. You've surpassed what is necessary, gone all the way to what is desirable, passed that, crashed through obnoxiously good, and flung yourself at the OMFG wall of fame.

Gee, I don't know? Maybe the fact that it needs heat sinks? But not to worry, should that safety feature fail, it has a cooling fan!!  Shocked

*** Oh WAIT!! You were being sarcastic. Ha! Didn't catch that on the first read through.  Grin

Really, a competent rider doesn't need this level of brightness from a brake light to keep riders off him/her.

Good luck waiting. All other integrated tail lights out there only have 30 LEDs max (motodynamic for example is the 2nd best out there IMO and that only has ~30LEDs). This one has 350 LEDs JUST for the brake lights and another 140 for the turn signals. For what you get and the plug and play quality it can't be beat. Plus, you can't put a price tag on your safety.
There is no price.  If its your day it's your day.  Texting, among other things by drivers won't stop the idiot no matter how bright.  For me this unit is too pricey and the controller is still too big IMO.   I'll keep twisting the throttle to avoid idiots

Have you been to a Lowe's or Home Depot recently? They barely stock any halogen bulbs anymore. Even Advanced Auto Parts and other car shops you have to have them place an order for you if you know the exact bulb model you're looking for.

They aren't in the regular bulb or lighting section, they are low voltage bulbs.  Go to the outdoor lighting section.  The small G20 type halogen bulbs are used in low voltage accent lights for homes.  My Home Depot has half a dozen different bulb types (10w thru 30w) in several colours.
