"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Well I didn't realize my old photos aren't working anymore... I'll try and fix them tomorrow.

Here is an update on the progess.  I know its rather slow but the budget isnt huge.  I did get the new guage and handlebar setup.  Still awaiting on the new left controls to come in the mail.  Any suggestions for the headlight?? Im still debating whether or not to use the trail tech or a can light.

Very nice! I've been looking at the Vapor Tech speedo units for an XS650 project that's not included in their kit listing; how did you figure out which one to order for this bike?

I just ordered the vapor 75-700 universal upright fork setup.  Only flaw with my setup is the temp adapter is an inline radiator hose one.  But I'm not worried about a full temp gauge as it didn't originally have one.  Without the adapter hooked up it will just show ambient air temps which is fine.  A lot of the trail tech stuff is pretty much universal anyhow.  I just mounted a headlight tonight and will post pics tomorrow so stand by lol.

Well i decided to post them up now as i would probably be busy tomorrow so here it is.  The new headlight from a V1000g5 from the same year.

I need to pull it out of the garage one of these days and get some better photos.  Pretty sure my phone makes the light look rather goofy.

So i was in the garage from 2pm till 930pm tonight working on the ol' girl.  Heres a list of what i did today. Pics will come later this week.
1. Removed excess tabs from the frame in the battery area
2. Welded a tab for the front brake pressure switch (hidden under the tank  waytogo)
3. Completed the Trail Tech gauge install (speedo sensor)
4. Completed an awesome wiring harness for the headlight
5. Put the stock muffler back under it because the headers i got were putting strain on the heads (plus the exhaust just didnt look right as i had it before)
6. Started contemplating using a small ammo can for the battery box
7. Started doing a little crappy paint removal cause the green and red is making me want to PUKE!
8. Started trimming the seat down and this is where im stuck.

For the rear end im starting to lean towards the bike Pedro-Bot posted.  I really like the idea of getting rid of the tail end crap and having a sort of Handle back there.  Seeing as how im always using the rear frame to man-handle it around anyways.
Another restomodesque-type moto

Heres the update.... Got the seat near finished.  The shape is done now it just needs the upholstry sewn.  Ive got a couple of small brackets to weld on the frame for my ammo can/radio setup as well as grind some of the old brackets off.  I might do a little bit of frame support just to be safe.  Today i stripped her down completely and to my suprise it only took about 20 minutes to have it to the point in these photos.  Also i will be buying some paint to at least get the ugliness taken care of.  Ill probably wait till next year to get it powdercoated like it needs to be.  I ran across a photo on the web for a cargo rack that i will be attempting instead of buying (220 euro.)  Oh and before i forget, i got the new taillight in as well i just need to get the mount made for it.
