It seams every year, near the end of riding season I come down with the same strange illness.  The unexplained desire to own a 2 stroke bike.  Maybe its the memories of learing to ride on my Dads YSR or the H2 drag bikes that used to show up at the local 1/8th mile.  This year I can put some blame on the knee slider for showing some beautiful custom 2 strokes, kwikasfaki-gsx-r400-kawasaki-h2-750-custom & xj500t-jaybuilt-kawasaki-500-bellytank-triple.  The fact that I have been dating a girl who's dad has a Suzuki water buffalo that has not been ridden in 30 years sitting in a shed does not help either.

Has anyone else contracted this 2 stroke illness.  Does a cure exist, or am I just going to be forced to dream about Aprillia RS250's & custom 2 stroke sport bikes?

You need to convince her dad to let you help him resurrect the bike. After all it won't get any better just sitting.

After all the money and work you put in you'll get to ride it...

and be cured. Wink

What'd you say about my Momma?

My neighbor has an RD400 in the garage that he refuses to even show me, we've lived here since 98 and it hasn't seen light since we've been here........also has a 66 Mustang rotting in the driveway that "someday" he will restore.

He now avoids me because I've become relentless in my pursuit of one or both of these machines.

What?  Bikers wanting to ride politically incorrect, socially unacceptable machines?  Ethanol is not good for the crank seals, finding good original exhaust is tough, most seals and bearings are still available through sources.

What an a$$hole!!!!    My first owned bike was an RD400.  Would love to have another some day, but only as a second bike.

I LOVE two stroke road bikes! My first road bike was a then new 1972 R5 Yammyhammer. Rode it for a bit and moved to a '73 RD350 with DG chambers... pretty sure they were DG's. My best friend got a then new H2 Kawi with Bill Wirges expansion chambers and it was awesome and nasty! I loved the door hinge in the middle of the frame!!! bang head laughingdp Ahhhhh... the smell of burnt Klotz, Blendzall and Castrol R. And fouled plugs. bang head Tongue

My last ring dinger street bike was a '79 RD400 Daytona. One of those "I wish I still had it" bikes.

About a year ago a shop here in town that specializes in used bike sales (High 5 Cycles) had an absolutely beautiful and prestine '84 RZ350 in KR Sr. factory bumble bee colors!! It was low mileage and stock!! No pipes, no steel braided brake lines, nothing... bone stock. Even the seat was still in good shape with no cracks. Believe it or not they couldn't get anyone to buy it for the longest time. Finally dumped it on ebay motors. Some body got the score of a lifetime. I wanted it but just couldn't justify it at the time.
