I have tried a couple hardware stores and they don't have them in stainless steel? Any idea where I can find them?

The ones that go around the fuel cap on the outside.  They are exposed to weather and they rust since the ones that were put on are not stainless steel.

5mm   .8 pitch...not sure how long.

You can measure the old ones.

Lowes also has them. I just bought a set a few weeks ago. They also have them in black. I think the total was around $4

If I were buying new ones, I'd certainly buy aluminum ones.  Light (oooh) and those bolts bear no load, unless you somehow lean on the open door.
Any GOOD hardware store should have both alu and SS.  Look in the Yellow pages under Machine Tool supplies.  THAT kind of hardware store as opposed to HD, Lowes or Ace.
