You might luck out like CharlieF did depending on how trim is set now.

I spoke with Country Joe and also Steve from European Cycle.  These guys definitely know their trade.  Based on location alone, I will most likely end up bringing the bike to Trebour.  If these guys were equal distance away, I would have a hard time deciding where to bring it.  I would definitely recommend both shops to anyone in the Northern NJ / NY area.

Steve at European Cyce has a dyno and got into a tremendous amount of detail with what he could do for me.  Unfortunately, European Cycle is well over 3 hours away from me....  a little out of my strike zone.

Both would start with adjusting the trim settings.  I would love to be able to remove the stock cored cans and replace them with the slash cut tips I recently purchased.  (This would pretty much be the equivilant of running the bike with open pipes).  Steve at European Cycles said he could most likely make both set ups work with some custom mapping, but at that point, it starts to get pricey.  He would really need to get his hands on the bike in order to make the best assesment on what would need to be done to utilize both.  Just wish his shop was closer....

With that said, Joe at Trebour said he sees many S2R owners coming in with similar set ups to mine.  He made me feel very comfortable as to what needs to be done for my set up.  With that said, he did not recommend running the bike with only the slash cut tips....  He said he has guys that have the stock midpipe with the slash cut tips and run the bikes no problem.  I guess with the Marving mid-pipe and the slash cut tips, its not the best idea.....?

Yeah, straight pipes with just slash tips doesn't give enough restriction for the engine to run well without tweaking it a lot.

search Boomtube here and see what is a similar setup, but has enough restriction built into the design so it works.

Joe has been there for a while and I've sent a bunch of ppl to him, good to see he is still going strong.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I've known Joe at Trebour for years and have dealt with the guys at ECS since they opened, you're not going to go wrong with either of them working on the bike.

I've been running just the stock mid-pipe for over 20k miles without any issues.  My take is that the udder provides enough back pressure to keep the engine running properly.
