SuzyJ im speechless!
awesome work!
i struggled all day to simply get a bracket around one exhaust today. My fingers are red raw I and didnt even get it on.
here are some pics of it mocked up
Before
After
Its sounds similar to my cored pipes. Im not too sure about the look as I dont like how they sit so far back but i think thats an opportunity to mod the riser pipe.
Those brackets were a pain though, I tried fitting the shorter one first but there were problems with it hitting the seat release lever grrr. I need to do a bit of research and see how others put it on. As for the left side surely a simple bracket is a one person job...i just couldnt do it
. i'll try again tomorrow with some help
If anyone has the same set up id appreciate hearing how you got your brackets on
Thanks

Looking good there suzy!
What are your plans for the wiring harness?
Roughly how many hours was it to get the frame bare as it is above? I have been seriously considering getting mine sprayed lately..
I'll reroute things so there's less wiring running around the head of the bike, and cover the loom in braided sleeving, which should protect it nicely.
There's only really three or so hours in getting the frame out. Much of my effort has been making plates and stuffing about.

What did I do to my monster today?
After waking up around 1pm still drunken I eventually took off the staintunes and front pipe, Sliced up a coke can and made some shims to seal up a couple of exhaust leaks, namely one that seemed to heat up the seat a bit. Worked quite well
I also have pulled off the headlight trim ring and painted it blek in preparation of the fitting of the trucklite LED headlight which seems to be lost in transit
Tomorrows job is another coat of paint on the surround and then to paint the mounts for it!

Ok, seems that the coke can shims didn't do as planned, well a little bit anyway.. Zipped down to auto one and picked up some copper silicone gasket stuff.

The brother and I will be fitting a 14t front sprocket, having a lookie at the clutch friction plates and maybe trying some alternatives (the brother always has spares!) and depending on how the overall gearing feels, maybe changing the rear 40 for a 39 (more spares).
With a few coffees, and perhaps some KFC for lunch, we have a nice day of Ducati tinkering ahead of us.

The 14t option didn't come off and was quite a saga (see Chain and Sprockets thread).
We did install some of his old stock Barnett friction plates and a newer clutch plate (painted gold) with new bearing and gave the bike some good cleaning.
No test ride though, the rain was heavy!
We did get to the KFC and coffee though!
A great day hanging with the bro and working on a Ducati!

The original Yuasa battery has been playing up after more than 6 yrs of loyal service.
So I spoke to Chris at Lite Motorcycle Accessories and he hooked me up with a Lithium Shorai LFX18A1-BS12 battery. It took 2 business days to arrive and looks great. Very happy with the build quality and fit. It wasn't the smallest but I used the original mount so that is fine with me. The new battery weighs less than 1kg.
Dunno about reliability but it comes with a two year warranty.
I'll let you know if any problems arise.
Has anybody had the lithium batteries for a while and have anything to report?

We put the Shorai batteries in our 4v bikes last year (sorry I can't remember when but I don't think it would be a full year yet). No problems to report.
We were finding that (before the Shorai) if the bike was left off the trickle charger longer than overnight they wouldn't start ... the Monster wasn't always that bad but the 999 could be a real prick to start. Originally I would still put the 999 Shorai on the charger out of fear ... but have found it unnecessary and she can sit for a few weeks without and still start up first time. Big improvement.
